Starting College in August help?

I start College in August and am quite nervous, I feel as though I am not prepared, and such.

But what I am asking is, is college hard? My undergraduate is Biology, and my mother has two bachelors, and she told me “it’s not that bad, and you do most of your “work” at home, and usually just do testing there”. Is this true? I home-schooled my last few years because of this, It was very arduous to just sit there after I was done (because it was easy), and had to wait for that class to end, and the next one to start. Im just scared Ill get there and class will start, and it will be super hard, unlike high school, and It will take forever, and Ill still be working while everyone else is done. Is she right, or did I miss interpret what she said?

You don’t do “work” in college classes like you do in high school. Generally, you will either listen to a lecture by the professor (which may or may not cover the reading; good professors generally don’t, because they assume you can read, and so use the reading as a jumping off point or as a contrast to lecture content) or you will participate in a discussion. In labs, of course, you will do the work in the lab and then do your lab reports.

You will be in class probably only 15-17 hours a week, depending upon how you set up your schedule. You will have a lot of free time.

Outside of class, you will do reading, do research, do problem sets, write papers, do team projects etc. As a rule of thumb, figure at least 2 hours of work for each hour in class, not including writing major papers, big team projects, and studying for exams.

Think you for replying. Your post has given me great comfort, would you mind if I PM’ed you, to ask something you about college, thats kinda medical?
