starting early?

currently, I am a sophomore in high school but I recognize that you have to start early if you have dreams of making it into an Ivy Leauge School. While I know that many things can and will change, I am currently in the top 10 people in my class (top 1%) of 1400 and am taking all advanced classes except for band. I have hopes of becoming a drum major, am involved in my church group and I am an eagle scout. I hope I only get better, but what advice would anybody have for me if I am to have any hope of making it into the upper eschelon of schools? Its important to me to have “a life” in high school and not only be about grades, which so far I think Ive done well. I need advice! Thank you -texastuba92

Get active in extra-curriculars. And try to gain leadership positions. Dont just do it to have it as an e/c. Show passion.

Volunteer a lot.
Maybe start a business teaching children guitar or teaching under-privelegded kids guitar

It looks great on applications

thank you! I know that half the battle is showing colleges the real you on your applications while still being a model academic student. What are some extras i should pcik up if I can fit them in with homework and working and balancing life? I am interested in medicene, by the way!

get straight A’s first of all. Get good test scores. Do a LOT of EC’s.

my biggest piece of advice is have fun at all times. Be excited about your classes and ECs and challenge yourself.

Just start getting involved in more and more things you love. It seems like you love band; make sure you’re in all the “music clubs” at your school, organize group of people to play songs at a nursing home… just do stuff you love that coincidentally looks excellent on a college app ;)
