“Describe a negative interaction that you have had with another person. What happened, how did you react, and how did you respond to the other person? How did the other person react to your response?”

This is the prompt for University of the Pacific and I need help. Please help me on what this actually means and some ideas for a perfect essay on this prompt. Thank you in advance.

okay i have an example. it might be stupid, but it’s all i can think of, maybe it will help.

a negative interaction would probably be some kind of argument or fight that left you feeling badly towards another person. ideally what would happen in your essay is that you react in a mature and tolerant manner i suppose, and with you being all openminded and stuff and where you solve the conflict effectively, leaving both parties feeling happy in the end.

an example might be like a teacher giving you a bad grade you didn’t deserve, or a fight with a parent over something, or a power struggle with your friend who was running against you for class president, or a sibling who annoys you all the time.

it could be more significant i suppose, like airport security in a foreign airport harassing you for no apparent reason and you could reflect on how that taught you about stereotypes and openmindedness and tolerance for all of humanity.

or maybe like kids in kindergarten picking on you because you look/talk/act differently from them, and how you felt lonely and desolate b/c you were different, but then you made them realize somehow that you were just like them and they all got over it and everyone was friends and all ended happily ever after.

okay, REALLY cheesy ideas, i know. but that’s my understanding of the prompt, take it or leave it.

what is the university of the pacific like anyway? find out what ideals they value maybe and try to reflect that in your essay.
