starting out 2nd semester

Hi everyone,
i just found out that due to some family issues, I am going to have to defer for half a semester. I talked to NYU about this and they said that it wont be a problem. I just wanted to know, is it alot more difficult to fit in 2nd semester? is this a common thing? I was just wondering what it would be like…

I’ve never heard of anyone doing that. I always thought that NYU didn’t allow freshmen to enter in the spring term. Personally, if I were you, I’d defer for a year and start next September. Starting in January after all the freshmen have already been there for four months and have established their classes, dorms, friendships, etc. is going to be hard for someone new. Starting off next year with the new entering freshmen would be much easier. I’d worry about housing issues starting in January, too. You’d be placed wherever they had an opening, probably with no choice.

housing wouldnt be an issue for me and neither would classes since i have already been placed in a dorm and I know what my classes are…at least for this semester…and if the schedule changes that is the least of my problems…and i know it is going to be difficult for me i was just wondering how difficult…

Well, housing isn’t going to keep your room waiting for you if you don’t move in on the 27th. You’ll be guaranteed a room but not the one that is assigned to you now. No one can tell you exactly how difficult it will be for you but the fact that in two years I’ve never met or heard of anyone who’s done this should tell you that it’s rare. NYU isn’t the easiest place to feel comfortable and adjust to, and if you’re doing it on your own, without 5000 other freshmen in the middle of the year, I think that it’s not unreasonable to think that it’s going to be even more difficult. Like I said, I’d wait til next Sept. if I were you.

yeah, plus that means your graduation would be thrown off unless you really load up the rest of your terms with credits, or take classes every summer or something like that
