Starting out early

I am a sophomore and was just wondering what I need to improve on.

My ACT composite score (took in October) was a 24, but that was just to see what the test was like for when I actually take it for score.

Unweighted GPA: 3.75
Weighted GPA: 4.25

Student Council my freshman year, decided it was a very large waste of time.

Science Olympiad, planning on all four years. So far 2nd place in regional competition for engineering a Boomilever.

My main extra cirricular is MCJROTC
Currently highest ranking sophomore, likley to recieve 3rd highest billet my junior year (Batallion Sergeant Major). Almost certainly will have highest billet my Senior year. Member of Marksmanship team, drill team, and commanded our JV Raider Team (athletic competitions against other JROTC schools).

Is it better to be really strong in one or two extra cirriculars, or be involved in multiple EC’s?

Thank you in advance for the help

Its way too early to tell what kind of schools you’ll be looking at at this point. In fact I would enjoy being an underclassman, and not think about colleges until next year.

In response to your question about ECs, its better to be strong in one or two. Good luck.

Vandy has a section on their new admission website specificially geared toward 6th-10th graders (seriously…6th graders!!!) about how to prepare early for applying to Vandy. You should check it out!
