Starting Salary Business Major

Experience, whether it be personal or from a friend, on starting salaries for business majors?

The NACE says the median starting salary for 2014 grads was $36K - $60K depending on which business sector you are talking about.

Ya, I looked at the stats, which say $47,000-$57,000 generally, but I am having a hard time believing it, so I am asking for people’s experience.

Why are you having a hard time believing the statistics? They are going to be more accurate and more useful than any one person’s experience. One business major may be the son of the guy who owns Sony and so starts out making $75,000, or may have some really hype computer science skills and starts out doing a hybrid CS/business thing and so makes $80,000 off the bat. Another business major may go to manage HR at a nonprofit and make $30,000, or end up managing a retail outlet for $45,000 a year. By hearing only from individual people you don’t get the full story.

The statistics aren’t necessarily super useful either (in that you might be that kid with a special connection or some skills or experience or serendipity that leads you to a higher starting salary than normal), but they are more useful than a handful of anecdotes from people.
