Starts again on this difficult process

Went throuht once with DD 2 years ago with a great result. Applying what we learnt with DS and hope it will be less stressful this time.

Tips to the new parents:
1. try not to put too much the stats on line - people will figure out who you are.
 2. it is all about your child so let them lead, help only when they are seeking them.
3. it is very easy to under estimate your EFC and over estimate the chance of merit$$. If $$$ is a concern, get a very clear picture as early as possible
 4. 20 more points of SAT or one more AP does not get you into college. Challenge yourself and pursuit your own interest will.
5. be the best you can and at the end, it will all work out.

Best luck to all.

Dad II…nice post. Good luck to your son in his college search and selection. Keep all those good ideas you posted in mind throughout the search.

I’d like to add one more…

Remember that it’s your son or daughter that is going to college, not you (the parents).

Wow! You learned a lot from your first time through this process. We’re going to hold you to all that you learned!

One more - DS is NOT DD and will not do the process the same or strive for the same results. Allow them to be different.

ellemenope, how are you going to

Believe me, I learnt a very deal lesson here. You will not see many post from me nor will you ever see me pick one of those multi page fight again.

I made a promise and I intend to keep it. You will never see one word from me about my DD and/or DS on this forum ever again.

– Apply to state and OOS safety schools where admissions are a slam dunk

– Cast a wide net for merit aid

– Stay positive and don’t sweat the whole prestige thing!

I echo what ellemenope wrote. Based on your first post on this thread, DadII, you come across as having learned a lot in the first child’s college process and that is very positive. Even if you don’t post about your son’s specific process, I do hope you will keep to what you gleaned the first time around on CC with your D, that you listed in your post. Should go better all the way around.

Good luck to all families supporting their seniors application processes this fall! Two years ago, my daughter; two years from now, my son. ;)

It was somewhat surprising to read the post from the OP, and…if he can stick with it…especially the part about letting his child lead…I hope that his son’s senior year will be a little less stressful than his daughter’s appeared to be.

Best of luck to you and your son this year, and I hope your daughter is having a great experience at Stanford. I know you said there will be no more posts about your son, but I hope you will post with whatever good news you get.

I like reading all the posts, so post away!

Dad, from what you’ve told us about your son he sounds like a fantastic kid who is going to make you very, very proud.

Good luck- it’s great that you’re back.

Dad II…in the end, I’m sure we would all like to hear where your DS chooses to attend college. I’m sure he’ll have some fine choices.

Well, we can’t actually “hold” you, of course, Dad II.

But if you do have trouble with “it is all about your child so let them lead, help only when they are seeking them”, (and who doesn’t have trouble with this bit of advice on occasion), we’ll remind you to say your mantra, many times in a row…while taking deep breaths.

T1, per post #12. That would mean I had broken my promise.

As many have said, a good student will do well in any school. I will be proud of him no matter which college he attands.

I’ve seen this advice several times on CC since I joined, and I’ve always been puzzled by it. Why would anybody want to know who we are? The value of the anonymity is obvious enough, but I just don’t understand what value there would be to anybody in violating it, except maybe out of pure spite. Are there really that many people who are so sociopathic that they would bother going to the trouble of ferreting out somebody’s identity just to embarrass or inconvenience them on a web forum? Is this something that has happened here before?
