This is just a reminder for anyone who is interested that our discussion of State of Wonder will begin on October 1st. There is still plenty of time to read the book! (At least I hope there is, because I haven’t started it yet.
But it’s going on a road trip with me this weekend.)

^^take along a back up book…i’m just saying…

Wbow- you wrote that you liked the book, so you think Mary13 should take a back up because she will read is quickly?
Like you, Wbow, finished the book -----------(liked it )

i liked it, but not sure why…i read it quickly–maybe in just a day or so…it wouldn’t last long on a road trip.

I just found out about the CC Book Club, and I am looking forward to participating in this one. Ann Patchett is one of my favorite authors these days, and have been wanting to read this one!

^ That’s great! I’m glad you’ll be joining us.

I just finished reading this and found the ending disturbing. I like Ann Patchett’s books and have read all of them. My favorites:* Bel Canto*, Magician’s Assistant, and Anatomy of a Face. Look forward to the discussion.

Don’t talk about the ending! I’m only one-third of the way through!

What a coincidence that I just got notification that the audiobook is at the library ready for pickup!

Aaaack – no spoilers, please!
Thanks for the reminder, though – I need to order it for my Kindle. I was waiting until closer to the discussion date since with my aging memory I’d probably forget it by then.

For those of you who aren’t finished with the book yet, read the last chapter carefully. Read between the lines. My 25-year-old D noticed a subtle and important aspect of the plot that I had missed. (And I am the one with my degree in English.)

Am about halfway through Bel Canto now. It was a rough start as I kept being interrupted after reading only a few pages at a time, and had to keep going back and finding out who certain characters were, but I think I’ve got them now!

bookiemom- will be rereading that last chapter. This books should encourage interesting discussions, with lots of new CCers joining in! Looking forward to it. Teriwtt, I also, read Bel Canto a few weeks ago, then followed with State of Wonder. I thought Bel Canto picked up at one point, but until then, it seemed slow going.

heading up to reread the last chapter now… wonder what I missed??

didn’t see anything different this time… Bookiemom, hope you’ll chime in early when the discussion starts to clear up the mystery! I didn’t love the book, but I think it will make for a good discussion.

Lucky you, Mary 13-you can now borrow Kindle ebooks from Chicago Library system.

[Chicago Public Libary now has Kindle books - Chicago Sun-Times](http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/7826261-418/chicago-public-libary-now-has-kindle-books.html)

Kindle-friendly “e-books” became available Tuesday at thousands of libraries across the country. Readers in Chicago quickly began checking them out by clicking a link on the library’s website that requires a library card number and zip code to download a book.

Well, as it turns out my local library system also has Kindle books and I just downloaded one I’ve wanted to read, but didn’t want to buy!!!
***so excited ***

Hi all - have been in the middle of a move, so have not read the Patchett yet. May have to miss out on this round of discussion - but I will eagerly read your comments whenever I do finish the book, and hopefully be contributing again in December!

PS - library lending on Kindle is great! I love that it works wirelessly. I used to have a Sony Pocket reader for the sake of checking out library books, but I HATED having to use OverDrive software, and USB cables, and all that jazz. Checking out a Kindle book from the library’s website is so painless!

I’m only halfway through, so I’d better get cracking! I must say, I really like this selection and can’t wait to see what others think.

See ya in a week!

Well, I not only finished this book long ago, I’ve now read Run, Bel Canto and am now on Taft!
