State Residency but not ELC

How does this affect my chances? Do UC schools look at whether or not an applicant is ELC, while state residency is only used for tuition purposes?

Also, since the subject test requirement is being abolished next year, am I wrong to presume that they won’t be giving much weight to subject tests?

I don’t know my scores yet, but I took Math II and Physics and am expecting ~750 for both. I couldn’t find UCB’s stats, but this is 30 above average for UCLA, which seems to be only slightly below UCB in admission standards. However, given my non-ELC situation, I’d best be above average.

I’m signed up to retake this in December but at a school hours away. I’m worried that because I’ll have to wake up extra early I’ll do poorly on my retake.

Depends on which college you apply to. For L&S, high SAT 2s just make you look better. For CoE and CoC though, they may want to see concrete evidence of you being good in their specialized areas, which is where SAT 2s and APs come in.

Basically, since you’re doing well for your SAT 2s, just put them in your app. 750s are good. If you can push them up higher, even better, but don’t worry too much about it.

Thanks. I am applying to L&S for computer science. I heard CoE had higher standards, and since Berkeley is already a reach/high match for me, I don’t want to risk rejection. As long as I’m majoring in computer science, I’ll be happy.

Bump. Too many rumors about UC schools admitting more OOS for their higher tuition. Must know if I have chance versus ELC.

No, I wasn’t ELC when I applied so it is definitely possible. I don’t know how much ELC is weighed in admission though.

“Too many rumors about UC schools admitting more OOS for their higher tuition. Must know if I have chance versus ELC.”

Since you are a CA resident, you still have a better shot v. the OOSers. I do not believe that the UC’s are giving a huge boost to the OOS applicants, due to the higher tuition that they will collect, only a slight boost. I know some of CC’s more seasoned veterans than I will take a shot at me for my view on this, but hopefully I also have some of the same opinion as mine.

ELC only means a very high GPA, so admissions will definitely consider other factors (SATs, extracurriculars, essays, etc.)…though being ELC probably means having a better chance of getting the Regents’/Chancellor’s scholarship.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I’m actually a DoDDs student so I am not attending school in California. My parents just still own the house we used to live in which happens to be in California.

Thus, I’m particularly worried that being OOS reduces my admission and the slight advantage I might have with UC being desperate for OOS tuition lost to my residency. Not to mention my essay isn’t turning out to be as awesome as I hoped it would be.
