state residency question

does anybody know if there are different rules for the state residency requirements if you have a disability? if so what are they? i am looking to go to school out of state so any responses will be welcome!

i am interested in texas, florida and kansas especially.

thanks!

I have read many state residency policies and I have never seen an exception to the residency requirements based on a disability – so I would have to say no, there are no special exceptions for the disabled.

however – if you are disabled and have a reason you want to attend a certain out-of-state campus due to your disability, it wouldn’t hurt to inquire at the admissions office if they would be willing reconsider your residency due to exceptional circumstances.

What some state schools do for students they really want to enroll is to grant them a waiver for the difference between the out-of-state tuition and the in-state tuition. If you are a strong student, you might look and see if the schools offer that.

I haven’t ever seen anything either…but call the schools and ask. Nothing ventured…nothing gained.
