State Residency?

Does being in-state help at all for Duke? Obviously it does not hold the same weight as it does for public schools, but I have heard from some it can help.

Yeah, it can help. Duke says they give it “some consideration.” James B Duke wrote in the school’s charter that it should be to serve the “people of the Carolinas” so there’s some historical weight as well as Duke’s desire to have homegrown talent and encourage applicants from the state. As you said, not nearly the weight a public school would give though…

Yes it does. Look at the class profile. A fairly high percentage are from the Carolinas, I can’t remember exactly how much.

I agree, it helps “some.” However, that “some” is very small. Of course, that is better than zero.
