State schools and volunteering/internships?

Just wondering how much weight volunteering or internships help with an application for a UC or CS school. My daughter is is considering either education, psychology or behavioral health as a major and she has an opportunity for internships or extended volunteering at school or autism programs, but if the cost is less AP classes or other challenging classes not sure it is worth it. If they only consider her classes, test scores then might be better to focus on better grades for the classes. She is not going to do all of it! I am talking about state schools not private.

Any thoughts?

CS schools, assuming Cal States (CSU’s) do not consider EC’s in their application review. Only CSU GPA, test scores, Geographic residence (in-state and local service area) and HS course rigor.

For the UC’s, they consider EC’s/Internships Important in their application review and it could help set apart applicants with the same academic credentials; however, UC GPA, Test scores, HS course rigor and the personal insight essays are Very Important.
