State undergrad >> private med school?

Hey all –

For some time I was debating attending Northwestern, Johns Hopkins (both BME) or University of Illinois @ Chicago’s GPPA (BS/MD) program.

In the end, I chose UIC GPPA because, obviously, of it’s guaranteed admission to med school.

Although it’s still a few years off, I will probably apply to other med schools when it comes time to apply (such as Feinberg @ NU, Hopkins Med School, etc.), even though I wouldn’t mind going to the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

My question is, what is the probability of admissions success with these schools coming from a state undergrad (probably majoring in Neuroscience)?

Thanks

of course its up to u and ur gpa and ur mcat it doesnt matter if its a state school

Statistically the odds are worse than they are at, say, Harvard, but nowhere close to zero. Many of the students I met on the interview circuit were from public schools, and occasionally not even very reputable ones. Of course, public schools are so large (as sakky likes to point out) that of course they’ll have sizeable contingents. Your odds are probably not quite the same, but they’re definitely non-zero.

Of course, the odds are bad for any specific school no matter where you’re from or who you are.
