<p>My impression is that they are all good schools, but the state colleges average standards are lower. However I know many people who chose a MA state college over a UMass school when accepted to both.</p>
<p>UMass Amherst is more highly regarded than the former “state colleges” now called state universities, and is also tougher to get into than the other UMass campuses. UMass has higher admission standards, for example than Bridgewater, Salem, etc.</p>
