States Most Popular Attraction - agree with yours???

Quite interesting!! I would agree with ours in Ohio - Cedar Point. I’d like to think its something more sophisticated but hey, Cedar Point is family fun!!- and near lots of lake attractions.

What do you think of your state attraction??

Mine is Assateague National Park but I would have thought it would have been the Inner Harbor Baltimore.

I love Cedar Point!

I was really expecting MI to be Sleeping Bear or something similar up north… completely floored by Henry Ford Museum. I’ve lived within 20 minutes all my life and never even considered going.

I’d love to make a list of these places and go see them all. I was in Washington last year and skipped Pike Place Market in favor of some sort of state park, gawking open mouthed at Mt. Rainier, and scoping out all the mountains from the space needle. Trip of a lifetime.

I’m glad the hordes go to Disneyland. I’ll take the Sierra wilderness.

It seems it’s only one entity. In WI, Wisconsin Dells, Door county among other areas are more popular but they are multiple attractions or things to do. You can’t really argue with the numbers given they are based on one attraction’s attendance. Looks like season attendance for sports teams, primarily would be baseball teams, aren’t included.

ETA: But then I see the Las Vegas and the French Quarter so I don’t know what the criteria are.

A farmers market?
I would have guessed Mt. Rainier.

Arizona’s is right on. Everyone should see the Grand Canyon.

Ema, you’ve never gone to the Henry Ford?! I thought that was like a rite of passage for us Metro-Detroit kids (we had 3 or 4 fieldtrips there when I was in elementary school).

I’ve been to the Henry Ford but I always forget how popular it is. My guess would’ve been Mackinac Island.

I guess DC moved north a bit.

I’ve been to 20 of them.

I’ve been to quite a few of them, but am not sure I would agree with the designation, especially in a state like CA> There is just so much that I’m not sure I’d have chosen Disneyland–the Golden Gate Bridge, Muir Woods, Yosemite, Sequoia National Park, Coastal Redwoods and ever so much more.

I agree that Waikiki Beach is famous but I’m not sure that really is THE biggest attraction in our state. Hanauma Bay, Kilauea volcano, Haleakala, Waimea Canyon, Na Pali Coast, and so much more. I have been to quite a few, include the flagship LLBean store (on our honeymoon).

Have been to 15. Really, didn’t think Navy Pier should have been chosen for Chicago. We were there several times and told by locals not to bother to go to it because it’s a tourist trap. I did love Chicago otherwise.

wow…Minnesota’s Mall of America has more (the most on this map) visitors than Times Square or Las Vegas Strip???

I love Cedar Point! NH’s is the White Mountain National Forest, which is gorgeous. Interesting that Maine’s is the LL Bean flagship store.

Yeah, guess San Antonio’s Riverwalk would win out over Houston’s Beer Can House.

Mall of America as the most visited site in the entire US?

Not sure I agree with MA being Faneuil Hall. I mean it’s nice and I would put it on my list of things to do but I would rather go to Provincetown or Cambridge or The Bershires or any number of other things.

My state’s is what I thought the answer would be…Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory! It seems all the tourists like to hit it when in our state. I live fairly close to it actually.

@soozievt - I’m your neighbor across the CT River and have never been to the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory. I must get there!

Why is Washington, DC in Delaware?

Florida had about 95 million visitors last year. I’d bet more people are attracted to and visit Florida beaches than Disney World. I’m going with beaches being Florida’s most popular attraction.

http://tbo.com/news/business/record-number-of-visitors-travel-to-florida-in-2013-20140214/

Growing up in Michigan and still considering myself “from” Michigan I too would have thought Sleeping Bear or Mackinaw - Greenfield Village was the rite of passage for our elementary field trips.

A dream trip was always to go to the LLbean Flagship - but over the years I have become a little less of a fan - however , if it could be teamed up with a trip to Ben and Jerry’s I could fully be in for going!!!
