statistics at GWU

I want to take the master degree of statistics.

Is this major so weak at this university? I have no idea.

However, I like the DC, the formal life style there, Job or internship opportunites. Are these factors enough?

I am an internationship student.

thanks for your help!

I also have AD of MSU, BOSTON U, I have to make a choice.

The problem with several of the statistics professors is English!
I have a hard time understanding them, but that is just me, it interferes with my learning ability if I can’t comprehend what they are saying.

England accent?
Glad to me you, It seems that you are also international student.
Do I have chance to new where you from.

By the way, is the learning tasks there heavy?
If I want to engage in finicial work,is the statistics MS there useful?

Very funny, mmmaaaccc!
In case you weren’t kidding, I am talking about their accent!
You can’t understand what they are trying to convey, nice guys, geniuses in math, but unable to teach what they know, and then your grades, in consequence, are reflected.

what’s their ancent?

what Multitasker is saying is that the math teachers at GWU are foreigners so they don’t speak good English. Thus students have hard time learning.

Do you get it? The teachers are from different countries, so they don’t speak very good english…

yes, I just asked which country the ancent belongs to, england, india, china, Austrilia…
And if I will go there, is there any efficient methods for me to prepare for such problem?
I like to be a international listener, it is very interesting.
I really appreciate your help.

A lot of them are from Asian countries, China in particular. I have never taken a statistics class at GW, but from experience with foreign teachers in other departments, just read the textbook and it will be easier to follow along during class.

Well… alot of math teachers in US colleges are foreigners especially Chinese. And plus I don’t think you will have much problem if you can read your book.

In the case of the Stats dept at GWU, actually, the foreign teachers are from African countries, but the language barriers are there.

Yeah… I realize that GWU had alot of Black teachers and faculty members. I wonder if that is because Washington DC has alot of blacks in the city.

GW has a lot of teachers from Africa? That actually interests me. I have some experience with African accents, so I’m actually just intrigued…

gogo: I’m assuming you are an international student, so you’ll learn this lesson when you come to the US…but there is a big difference from teachers from Africa, and the African-Americans who make up the majority of DC residents. I’d really suggest taking a class on American race relations when you are at GW to get a better idea of this important history.
