stats for yale

I want to go to yale particularly towards law or political science majors.

My stats are the following:
gpa:4.1 weighted
rank: 42 out of about 800
sat: somewhere in the 2300’s(forgot my exact score and also this is the new one including writing)
9 Ap’s: 4s and 5s
extracurriculars alongside accomplishments
pf debate: 8 years
won about 15 state level debate tournaments
won the stanford national debate tournament
octafinals in nationals
clubs: started 2 clubs
1.philosophy club
2. anti poverty brigade- lols i made the name, its a club in which writers can be summited into writing tourns that offer cash prizes. If you win and get the money, you donate the money to charitable orgs. we’ve raised about 500 dollars so far and im about to open up a youtube channel and website for it before i apply to college
other extras.
writing-won about 25 writing competitions and won.(one was the national scholastic writing comp which is considered quite prestigous)
science fair- went to two and got to regionals once
job experience- as an intern at a law firm and have been doing so for about a year now.

languages-i took ap span and im considered pretty fluent, i also speak pretty fluent korean and some decent german. (and of course english :)) so i know about 4 languages
Im about to publish a light novel as well thats about how people basically function as a state entity.(pretty interesting concept)

other small things:
200 volunteer hours- won the presidents service award for this
went to yale summer program
national merit scholar finalist

Sounds like you have a good application. Just make sure your essays are great.

thanks, any more feedback besides this?

ethnicity? It’s sad to say but this really can factor your application and chances.

im actually an asian male so you’re right it will affect my chances so I have to really stick out like a sore thumb!

It is hard to tell what is real and not in your post. If colleges feel the same on your application that won’t reflect well on you.

? can u specify?

@ClarinetDad16 I agree. Seems like a lot of it is made up or embellished. Also the new sat is out of 1600, so how did you manage to get in the 2300s?

There’s no law major at Yale (undergraduate). You need to do your research.

And you may think it’s cute to go non-caps and to misspell “you’re” and “it’s”…but that does not impress me that you are Yale material. Just saying…

(misspellings are in your other thread http://■■■■■■/2ff7z1e)

@pickpocket lol what the heck, this is the internet not college apps/essay, what does it matter that he made some typos lmao. Seriously, chill, he asked for chances not a grammar and spelling editior.

OP, Yale is a reach for anyone, but your stats put you in the average of ppl who were accepted (but on the same note, also probably the average of those that were rejected). You have wonderful stats though, so just apply, write some killer essays and get some great recs and see what happens! Good luck!

@neonerudite Perhaps I shouldn’t read too much into the all lower case. But so much about the OP strikes me as either lazy or non-genuine that it’s hard for me to take seriously. Most sincere Yale applicant posters: DO use good grammar, don’t confuse NM Finalist and Semifinalist, know their SAT score, don’t confuse SAT scales, rarely claim to have “won” 41 competitions, know Yale doesn’t have a pre-law major…

@pickpocket can’t agree that the grammar is all that significant still, but yea I do agree with you in all the rest lol.

Maybe you will write a quirky essay that will make you stand out like your original post seems to do. But all in all, your stats seem to be in the general arena for Yale applicants. However, all the awards and extra curricular activities will not boost your resume. If you have an interview, the interviewer will quickly cut to the chase. I always ask during my interviews about the EC that is most important to you and why. This usually culls out those that have a long list of ECs and activities just so they can seem impressive. My biggest advice is to be yourself and let that come through in your app in some way. Stats alone never will get you into Yale.

the essay part accomponies it remember?

The New SAT is out of 1600. The old SAT was out of 2400. If you got 2300+ then you took the old SAT. How can you forget your exact SAT score? This seems fake to me.

@Tperry1982, kids/parents should paste your words to their refrigerator door.

^^Thanks, I guess. Just trying to keep it real. I’ve been doing this Yale thing for awhile.
