Stats of those who have gotten "likely letters"

haithman, the mathematical finance track is nothing special - you can get the same coursework at any major university. They just took the time to organize the classes like that. If you’re applying to graduate school, it’s the coursework that matters. If you want to be an investment banker or something, I would assume they’d do the same.

worldshopper - for me, it really depends on a lot of factors. I would love to go to UVA and would be very happy there, but I think there are other schools I might want to go to over it. It all depends on finances and stuff obviously, but I think if I get Echols (not sure if I will or not, my sat scores are kind of low) I will definitely go to UVA

I am interested in info about anyone that was deferred ed and also received the likely letter? Was it the SAME likely letter was the rd applicants received? also…your stats? thanks, :)

To answer a previous question about whether or not letter receivers consider UVA, most people who get these letters see UVA as their fall back or safety. Assuming the majority of the recipients eventually get Echols, it’s actually more common than not that they’ll still go to another school (generally because it’s higher ranked but for other reasons as well). I believe only 37% of offers of Echols are actually accepted, meaning over 60% of Echols receivers ultimately reject UVA despite getting Echols status.

On top of that, many who do accept are those who applied to higher institutions but for whatever reason were rejected or waitlisted. All in all, I think only a fraction of recipients seriously consider UVA as their top choice.
