When given two groups of data (suggesting a hypothesis test), how do I know when to use a paired t test and when to use a difference of means t test?

Paired test has one sample (two treatments), difference of means has two.

Thanks alot!

for free response 2002 form b, in number six for parts A and B, How do i know if to use chi squared or not for part A? In part B, how do i calculate the expected values?

^^Use the calculator.

Once you enter all the data in Matrix A, go to Matrix B. Your expected value will be there.

You use chi-squared when all the expected values are greater than 5.

^^
can you explain that better please? I tried it but the expected values don’t appear in matrix B

Did you go to stat –> tests —> chi-squared test? All you have to do is hit calculate, check your matrix B, and your expected values should automatically be there after you enter your data in Matrix A.

Well you use a matched t-test when the 2 samples are DEPENDENT! not INDEPENENT! That’s how I memorize it :). You can’t use chi-squared if the 2 are dependent…
