Has anyone called their local reps or the admissions office yet regarding their deferrals? apparently, some are serious deferrals while others are just a polite deferral in which yale has no intention of admitting the applicant, how do you find out?

I doubt you can usually find out for sure. However, if anyone can, its your guidance counselor.

Thanx, thats what I thought. Goodness, i wish i had patience.

Does anyone think that it is a good/bad idea to ask the Guiadance Counselor to make a polite follow-up phone call to Yale to ask if their is anything they need for RD.

I’ve heard it can only be a good idea.

so a polite deferral is just like they didnt wanna be jerks, so they defer you just for the sake of it? whats the purpose in doing polite deferrals

One example of a polite deferral would be for a legacy, whose family they don’t want to offend with an outright rejection.

usually legacy students are deferred and later accepted b/c they dont want to use the early slot on someone they can admit later and who they are pretty sure will matriculate. I guess that would be another type of ‘polite deferral.’

Laertes, how do you know this??
