stay/transfer?

My daughter is a sophomore (BM) at an out of state university. She likes the faculty and school, but realizes it does not offer some of the same opportunities that other programs provide. For example, there is no big senior showcase with industry professionals and there are a limited number of guest artists who visit the school. Also, she has classes in voice, dance and acting, but the curriculum is not as intensive as other programs (since it is not a BFA). The idea of transferring to another school has been considered.

So our questions are:
1-Is it really that advantageous to perform is a big showcase?
2-Does attending a well known school make that much difference in the end?
3-In addition to CSUF, what other schools have programs in which you specifically audition after the sophomore year? (beginning as a freshman is not an option for her even though she knows most BFA programs require this)

Thanks for any input!

Very fast answers. 1. The showcase is very nice, but not really something that is worth starting at a new program and likely adding years and expense. 2. Training helps. Where you get training isn’t important. It might start a conversation now and again, but it doesn’t get you a job. 3. Can’t answer that question, but I wish you luck.

My d was a vp major and transferred after sophmore year. It was an expensive move. She lost a large scholarship and recieved a small one and she has to go an extra year for a total of five years. If you or your daughter feel that she will not be competitive when she graduates, just remember training doesn’t stop. If I had to take out loans or she had to, I never would have allowed her to transfer and as it happened she did not know at the time what credits would transfer and which would not, so neither of us knew that she would require an extra year.

Try UC Irvine, Wagner, Marymont Manhattan
