Staying at a community college for 3 years

I’ve been thinking about this for the last few weeks. I’m not sure if I should stay at a community college to take classes with professors I want to take and obtain an associates degree. Or I can just transfer to a four year university after these next two semesters and not obtain an associates degree. I’m a pre med student so rigourous studies matter, which I’ve had 17 credit hours each of my last two semesters. Will it hurt me to stay and take some professors I want to take before I leave or should I just transfer?

Thereis usually a limit to how many credits are transferable from a community college to a 4-year program. If you stay an extra year, you might not be able to transfer all your courses.

Many medical schools prefer that you take your required pre-med courses at a 4-year institution. Since you are intending to get an MD, you will have to get a Bachelors degree and there is no real need to get an Associates degree as well. You have a long road ahead of you and you should be working toward completing the Bachelors degree as efficiently as possible.

Generally speaking, a bachelor degree requires 120-135 SEMESTER units or 180-200 QUARTER units. Most schools, especially the more prestigious ones, will not accept more than half of the units from another institution. They want you to take at least half of the units at the school you graduate from. It’s unlikely you’d be able to transfer more than 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from cc.
