Staying in my Girlfriend's Dorm

Hey…

So I live in Australia and my girlfriend attends University in Philadelphia. I will be over there for a month during Winter Break for Christmas & New Year. We get to see each other for an extremely limited time each year due to the distance, and she wanted to try sneak me in her dorm for two weeks.

The college allows visitors over the weekend, but not Monday-Thursday…

How risky is it to do this? I don’t want to get her or myself into serious trouble.

Just don’t.

What would the consequences be? Or do you have any reccomendations as to how we could get around this problem?

Rent a hotel room or a place through Airbnb.

It seems very unlikely that you can get away with this for two weeks. If you were kicked out of the dorm, what would you do?

I think that you need to find a different place to stay, such as an inexpensive hotel room somewhere nearby.

Does she have a roommate? If so, forget it. The roommate is also paying for the room, and having a guest (especially a SO of the opposite gender) is problematic even for a short time. Don’t encourage your GF to break the rules, either.

If no roommate sharing the bedroom, find an Airbnb or hostel for the M-Th window. Also, if you are there in Dec when school is still in session, your GF likely has final exams. It is a bad time to have a visitor. Be ready to entertain yourself a lot during that window if needed so she doesn’t damage her grades because you are visiting.

Hey @intparent thanks for the responce

She lives in a shared room - so there is a living room, and three other rooms for her, and her roommates that are females. I get a long well with them and they’re excited to see me too…

Do USA Colleges have Guest rooms? I am contemplating contacting them myself and asking if I can rent one out for 2 weeks?

Also… it is the first two weeks that she goes back - Jan 14th - Jan 28th. Her Birthday is on the 22nd, which is another reason why we are trying to extend the trip.

Does she have her own bedroom? Can’t tell from your description. If do, then the weekend stays seem fine.

Some US colleges do have guest rooms, good thought. One of my kids’ colleges did, one didn’t.

She does yes. Just worried about Monday-Thursday, as weekend guests are allowed, but throughout the week are not @intparent

Understood. I would not stay in the dorm if the rules don’t allow it in those days.

Maybe stay at a youth hostel? http://www.hostels.com/philadelphia/usa

Please don’t get your girlfriend in trouble, or force her roommate into an uncomfortable situation! You’re an adult now - part of traveling is budgeting enough money to cover lodging and food.

2 weeks is a long time. A weekend is about all that allows anyone to look the other way.

  1. Are the dorms open over winter break? Many close before Xmas and don’t open until school starts back up.
  2. If so, does she have a roommate and will her roommate be there?
  3. Will she be taking classes?

Hey @bopper

I am actually talking about the 2 weeks that she goes back, so Jan 14th.

Im at her parents house over Winter Break

@Aussie97 GO TO AN AIR BNB. Or choose the Expedia mystery hotel or stay at her family or friends during the week when you are not allowed. Why get her in trouble?

Buy a wig and some sweatpants, and just try to blend in.

@erichioro Sweat pants are old school Bosom buddies. Girls today wear yoga pants.

Seems she’d know best if the two week stay would be a problem. She’s the one at the school, she’s the one who will pay the price if she gets in trouble.

Maybe she has some friends at a neighboring school or some who live off campus who you could stay with.

2 weeks is too much to stay in someone’s dorm.
