What is everybody doing to keep their minds off of the impending decisions? I have been trying to study for a few of my upcoming tests and basketball is starting up Thursday, so that will be occupying a few of my evenings. I don’t know what I am going to do this weekend through the beginning of next week. My letter will probably be coming Tuesday. I will probably go to school Tuesday morning through lunch (my morning classes are my hardest and most important) and then going home “sick.” I am extremely happy I don’t have to work that night. I will either be wanting to celebrate or be alone.

What is everybody else doing to stay occupied? I might need some more ideas.

Creeping around College Confidential… haha.
Actually, I’m hoping to get a snow day on Thursday so I can go sledding at my grandma’s with a group of friends. Other than that, I’ve been playing some games. Nothing really productive, besides making sure my schoolwork doesn’t slip.

we had a snow day today so that meant tons of time to obsess about ND … but other than that working out has been the only thing that gets my mind off the decision …

we had a snow day here in wisconsin too, today(even though it was weak, only like 6 inches of snow… and it was during the day, but they thought it might be freesing rain.)
and that killed me.
gave me a whole day to clean my room. looking at all of my college mail from the last 9 months
and think about ND.
I have a band concert saturday and this weekend I was running the spotlight at a church program so that helpped pass the time.
But mostly I’ve been reading and facbooking. lol
In the last few weeks ive read the Kite Runner, 1776, Fahrenheit 451, and now im on the Catcher in the Rye.
But these last few days are gonna be tough.
good luck guys im praying for all us CCer’s.

ya the last few go pretty quick.
are you reading it for school?
scrabulous and jetman are good facebook apps too lol only you need another player for scrabulous.

Wow, that’s interesting that you’re reading something so modern for AP Lit. I’m not questioning the book’s quality or importance, but it’s just so weird to see it. We just finished Macbeth, which followed Hamlet, which was preceded by Tennyson’s Idylls of the King and Beowulf. Yeah, we still haven’t even touched prose.

I am so I took Modern World Fiction this semester, that sounds dreadful (no offense). If anyone wants something to occupy their time google the poem ‘Permanently’ by Kenneth Koch. It gives a few good laughs.

My teacher hasn’t taught in the past but I guess like he felt like he wanted to this year. I don’t mind though…it was a pretty good book. It was a lot better than some of the other books he has had us read (Heart of Darkness).

We’ve read pretty good books all year.
Our teacher was a good teacher and nice and all, but in a kindergarten way. It drives me crazy. We have to read out loud in class and she reads things and asks if we get whats going on like every 5 lines. Then when we watch a movie she pauses every 10 min… now we have an awkward student teacher…and no one else in my class reads or answers coherently except like 3 other kids…the rest either are lazy, morons, or don’t know how. its brutal plus i have to spend all day with them seeing as we have 36 kids in our class.,and I’m just kinda done with it lol… but i love em still…rant over

but anyhow back to my point… we’ve read all interesting books this year, and on the outside ive read some good ones. But now i’m talking like the last few books ive read its kinda bad. If you Ever read The Catcher in the Rye you’d know why its bad. lol

What are you thinking about studying? Thats another thing i waste my time on: researching majors and careers.

I liked Catcher in the Rye. Probably one of the better books I’ve read in school.

I’ve kind of tried not to research careers and majors at this point. When I do, the trail of links starts leading me to all these schools that aren’t Notre Dame. We can’t have that, now…

Oh don’t get me wrong, I love Catcher in the Rye.
It’s one of my favorite and most entertaining books I’ve ever read.
Only I’ve been throwing phoney, moron, gd and “you’d get a kick out of”, etc into my sentances in the last few days lol.

There are two types of people in the world. People who loved Catcher in the Rye.

And those that realize how incredibly annoying and pretentious Holden Caulfied is, how mediocre the writing is, and recognize the book for what it is - one of the most overrated books of all time.

yea, I don’t enjoy it for its literary mastery. I read it for fun. Because every guy at one time has felt all the feelings Holden feels. It’s just Holden feels it all the time and acts on it.(and all us goody two shoes trying to go to ND never got a chance to live that recklessly lol)
The fact is his writing style is trying to show you how holden thinks. He’s random, judgmental, and goes off of his gut reaction. Much like any teen he makes rash decisions and thinks he knows everything and is the best judge of everything(Though Salinger throws in comments by other characters proving otherwise).
It isn’t written to follow the rules. It’s about breaking them.

Holden is not an engaging character. The other characters are useless, they do little else but further the plot, which is boring. Really, it took Salinger a whole book to do what could have been done in a chapter - Holden’s a jerk who thinks he’s better than everyone else, but isn’t. There’s no development. Everyone remains shallow and uninteresting, while Holden stands in the corner jumping up and down, clenching his fists, and yelling “Angst! Angst! Angst!”

Well I’m sorry you don’t find it entertaining. (and Salinger was writing a Novel not a synopsis of one)
but why be bitter about this?
hopefully we’ll all be ND brothers soon.
