What are some things you do to ensure that you stay sane and put yourself in perspective?

Watch COLLEGE basketball. Bash the BCS. Facebook.

Go to the gym daily; eat well; read for pleasure; follow one or two TV shows religiously; have dinner with friends a few times a week; go watch a movie at a theater every weekend; not care what people think of me; realize there’s more to life than school, grades, etc.

It’s not always an easy thing for me to do, but I’ve found that doing so saves me a lot of mental energy.

sports, sports, sports.

video games, video games, video games

Also chatting with grad students in your lab, sleeping in on weekends, having lan parties on friday nights, reading interesting stuff online, having dinner with your friends, having a hobby (or two), being in a club you enjoy (or two).

I wish the grad students in my lab would talk more often. It’s annoying because I’m there for a good chunk of time every day and nobody talks. I’m stuck listening to whatever radio station one of them has put on (unless there’s no one there… then I get to choose!)

Talk to girls… :D

Exercise for at least 30 mins everyday, eat healthy foods, and ensure you get a good night’s sleep (6 hrs minimum with a set bedtime at least Mon-Thurs nights to maintain your circadian rythm), have good friends to chill out with, and lastly, don’t forget to call your Mom or Dad if you you need to chat or even to complain about anything or nothing in particular.
