I am in needed of a great mop for my kitchen hard wood floor. With an adult dog and a new puppy, my floor looks like hell! No matter how I mop, there is still a good bit of grunge on the floor. After cleaning up the puppy accidents with Nature’s Miracle, the paper towels are filthy even though I have recently mopped. I feel like a steam mop maybe would do a better job. Or is there a good sponge mop that will allow me to get more elbow grease into the cleaning?

I have looked at the Shark Steam Pocket Mop, but at $119.99 minus my 20% BBB coupon, I still find that a hefty price. Of course I will pay that if the Shark will get the floors clean. I currently use a regular deck mop with water and vinegar but I think the floor is just surface clean. I also looked at the Casabella big sponge mop or their microfiber magnet mop which doesn’t require any cleanser. I just don’t understand how the Shark or the Casabella magnet mop clean without any cleanser; can I use vinegar with either of these?

What does everyone use on their hardwood floors?

I have seen the Bona hardwood floor mop and cleaner, but I want something I can use often and is easy. My understanding is the Bona needs to dry and you need to stay off of the floor for a time period; that isn’t happening in this house! Bona may be a good product to use maybe monthly, but not something I would use a few times a week.

Scout, Bona is water-based. This is how it works: you spray the water-based solution onto a section of the floor (very lightly), then wipe it up with a mop that has a microfiber pad (I bought a mop separately at HD), rinse the mop pad/wring it dry if needed, and repeat. It dries fast, in less than 5 minutes, just like a water/vinegar solution. I clean my hardwoods with this stuff weekly, but if I had to increase the frequency of cleaning, I would not expect any problems. Although I tend to think that the key component is the microfiber pad :)

BB- Does your floor have a polyurethane finish? I know I need to have my floors refinished which is a whole other ball game, but want to at least get them clean in the mean time.

With a new puppy that isn’t housebroken and a larger dog that seems to bring in all the mud from outside, my kitchen floors are dirty when they are clean. I guess until we got the puppy this week and I have been on my hands and knees cleaning up accidents, I hadn’t noticed how dirty my floors really were!

I wonder if I could just try the microfiber mop with the vinegar and water and see if that works first; if not I will try the Bona. I have a cleaner twice a month, but I don’t let them use anything other than the vinegar on the hardwood floors!

I have the Shark about a year now. I found it great, even deep cleaned the grout. The cord is a tad awkward at times, but other than that, I really like it, as I don’t like using harsh smelling cleaners, and steam did the trick as far as getting it really clean.I use it on my hard wood floors as well as tile.

I love the Bona cleaner, it’s easy to use as often as needed and the floors look great. We use it (one Standard Poodle) and so does our neighbor (two kids–4 yr old and 1 yr old). I have no idea what makes it work so well, but it’s amazing.

I use the Sh-mop. It is like a super heavy-duty version of a swiffer mop – it is not a steam mop. I have used it for over ten years. The terry-cloth covers for the mop-head are washable and last forever. I hate cleaning, but the sh-mop is great (available on Amazon).

I went to BBB today and decided to try the Bona cleaner and mop first. If I don’t like the outcome, I will try the steamer next. Unfortunately, BBB did not have extra pads for the Bona, and I am going to assume I will need a few, at least the first time I mop. I would rather change the pad a couple of times during cleaning and then wash them all together, but maybe I will get thought with just one.

I may also look around for another brand of a microfiber mop; don’t think it matters what brand I use. The Sh-mop looks nice also.

My cleaning woman wants to use just a little Pine Sol on the floor, but I told her no way; I am not putting a detergent on the hard wood floors. If I like the Bona, I am afraid she will use an entire bottle in one day, so I may have to save the vinegar for her days and the Bona for only me!

My cleaning woman uses a shmop…our floors always look great. In between her cleanings, I use a swiffer. All wood floors downstairs…vinyl upstairs.
