I am thinking that I would like to get a clothing steamer. I presently have a small portable steamer that I received as a gift several years ago. The small steamer works okay but not great plus it isn’t the easiest to use on larger garments.
Do you have a steamer? Do you like it and is it worth the cost?

I got one to steam out my new custom curtains, which are lined and pleated and when hung looked like they had been folded up in the box for months. They are too big and heavy to iron. The steamer didn’t seem to be doing anything when I used it, but later I could see a big difference between where I had and hadn’t used it. So I guess it works, but it’s not as immediately satisfying as ironing. I haven’t tried it on clothes, because of the aforementioned satisfaction with ironing.

I got this one: [Amazon.com - Steamfast SF-435 Compact Fabric Steamer](http://www.amazon.com/Steamfast-SF-435-Compact-Fabric-Steamer/dp/B00070OWMU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381777556&sr=8-1&keywords=clothes+steamer)

I didn’t like that I have to use a extension cord with it to get close enough to the top of the curtains.

There are a few available at Costco. My brother swears by the one that comes with a metal frame which can be used to hand the garment you are steaming. He says he steams every morning before he dresses and leaves for work. We still just have a traditional iron, which we rarely use as we mostly have clothing we can just pull out of the Demeter and wear.

If you want a reliable, powerful steamer that can replace ironing, get a Jiffy. Jiffy is the made in the USA brand of steamers used by local retailers (Nordsrom, Banana Republic, Gap, etc. ) to steam garments prior to putting them out on the racks on the sales floor.

My D who worked at Nordstrom over the summer wants to get a steamer. After using one in the store she said she never wants to iron again!

Lol, showmom! After I watched a Nordtrom SA steam a blazer, I was instantly convinced that I absolutely needed a Jiffy steamer. I have an older version of this steamer:

BunsenBurner that might be the one I buy
