Steinhardt School of Education

Is Steinhardt’s school of education good? Is it thought of highly in NYC?

I was considering applying to NYU as an education major in Steinhardt, but I haven’t heard much about their education program. In your opinion, is their education department worth getting into financial debt over?

For grad schools, according to wiki, “NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development has one of the top 15 education programs in the U.S”
Although I transferred out because I wanted to pursue film in Tisch, the education program at NYU is really lovely—everyone’s extremely passionate about teaching, even my classmates impressed me with how much they cared. We had some great debates and discussions over education reform, for instance. Plus you get amazing opportunities doing field studies even as only a second-semester freshman–plus it’s NYC, so you get to really experience public school teaching.

I do think you should definitely apply to keep it as an option, but you are right to be concerned about the financial aspect of it. There are always activities where you can meet graduates of the education program. I know that many graduates who stayed to teach in NYC cannot afford to actually live in Manhattan, but they love their jobs anyways. Something to think about!
That’s just my feedback–good luck! :]
