STEM Likely Letters 2015

Just wondering if anyone’s guidance counselors or other school officials had been contacted by Yale yet in regards to their STEM likely letters Yale seems to send out in limited batches each year.

Slow down boy. Yale hasn’t even processed scores yet. They’re having issues downloading them for most RD applicants. Have you?

Yes they’ll happen. To whom, who knows. But to be on the “likely letter” watch is akin to watching paint dry. Spending even 2 seconds on this extremely unlikely happening is even wasteful, IMHO. Yes, some people will get them. So what?

And it might even be you? So what? Wondering about it now is a waste of energy IMHO. You’ve done all the hard work (getting in your apps). Now go and enjoy the rest of your senior year. You deserve it.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a STEM likely letter. Does having an expedited interview relate to it, one of my friends got called for an expedited interview?

Yale knows some of its applicants will be highly coveted by other colleges – by issuing a LL, they hope to come to the front of the line in terms of courting and wooing the object of its affections. Many of these will be very strong STEM candidates whom Yale feels will be a good fit. Hmmm… so what do you think an expedited interview meant for my friend? Also if he gets a likely letter is there no way I can get in from the same high school

What has your friend done to be considered a STEM person?

@nandroida, your friend’s acceptance (or likely letter) does not affect your ability to get in from the same high school, except that maybe it means that Yale looks favorably on your HS :slight_smile:

@IxnayBob‌ Thanks for the support

@texaspg‌ He is a CS (computer science) guy, really good at what he does. He has also created a tech startup.

It is better than conducting an interview after a likely has been issued which has happened to some in the past, assuming that he does get one.

@dancelance, my son received a LL (actually it was a phone call, he was told the letter will follow) and an invitation to YES-W in February.

@jrtgsdrule‌ that’s wonderful congrats to you and your son! What are some of his STEM accomplishments?

@jrtgsdrule‌
Congrats!

Thanks, he is thrilled. AIME since 7th grade, USJMO (in 8th and 9th) USAMO, ARML since 8th grade, and math research at a local University. As you can tell, he’s a math guy!

@jrtgsdrule‌ When did your son get his phone call for YES-W? Was it yesterday or a while ago?

@nandroida - He got the phone call Jan 27th.
