STEM Major?

This is probably a dumb question, but would a degree in Human and Environmental Systems with a concentration in Geographic Information Science be considered a STEM major? Thank you.

What are the classes required for the major? Also, does it matter if it is considered a stem major?(like for a scholarship?)

Maybe, and it depends on who you’re asking.

Most people include only the natural and physical sciences when they are talking about the S in STEM, so if your major required a lot of classes in chemistry and physics (or biology/ecology) and the GIS part was legit physical science-oriented then it would probably be considered a STEM major by most people. If it was more the social science side of geography, more sociology and anthropology and psychology of how people interact with environmental systems, then probably not.

But the National Science Foundation also considers the social sciences (psychology, anthropology, sociology, economics, political science) to be part of STEM fields.
