This is very specialty and location specific. For example: IM? Not necessary at all. EM? Required. Looking to move across the country when you’ve spent your entire life up to that point on one coast? Very helpful.

Thankfully, he has an excellent personality. He’s the kid who’s everyone’s favorite…at jobs, at school, amongst family members, etc. He’s very funny, down-to-earth, caring, and responsible. (of course he has given his MOM more than her share of gray hairs, but that’s to be expected !! )
During his med school app year, I was certain that any med school who’d interview him, would accept him. And that did happen.
Ok…so “away rotations” could be a big help. Luckily, we have relatives that live near a number of med schools. I know that he was concerned about lodging issues with “away rotations” but he’s received many offers to provide a bed for him for those stints.
Also rotatingroom.com is a website for med students doing aways to sublet out there place/find sublets at other places. Requires a med school email to list/respond to a listing.
I’ll let you know in a month haha
