and to think I had to study this man stories and writing methods in my short fiction class. I guess there is a reason he is a fiction writer, because he sure doesn’t have his facts right.

Mega Barf! Wow! It is hard to believe that anyone, never mind King, would denigrate the motivation of the people who volunteer for our armed services. Yes, the Army offers education and tuition and a chance to advance … but all the benefits come at a price, and possibly the very highest price that can be paid.

I get so very annoyed, for example, when people say that an education at West Point is “free”. Yeah right … “free” plus x years of service, plus y years depending on the post-graduate options you choose. It’s the same for anyone called to arms at any level … but we must be fair … in a democratic society, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I am, however, completely baffled that anyone who believes in the rights and freedoms we have here in the USA can trash, in the way King’s comments imply, those who choose to serve.

Just my opinion, of course, but for those reading these forums, I think it’s important to speak up and let aspiring cadets know that there are many, many people who not only support, but applaud, your choice.
