Stern low stats, do I still have a chance?

SAT: 1970
GPA: 3.42 UW
But I have great ECs, I've started a marketing business and a non-profit organization. Done a lot of consistent volunteer work though out highschool at a nursing home and have been on many mission trips around the world. Do my scores automatically rule me out, I'll be applying ED2.

Complete rule out, NO chance at all. I am sorry if I am harsh, just trying to save you some trouble..but apply if you want to give it a go.

haha, well I don't want to be unrealistic, thats what I figured anyways :( I'm still going to apply just to give it a go. Would I have a chance a CAS? And could I still apply to Stern ED2, and get into CAS if I check the box on the common app asking to be considered for admission to other schools.

If you apply to Stern and are rejected, they will not consider you for CAS.

Stern and CAS are almost equal when it comes to admissions. CAS has been getting highly more selective, as it receives the most apps of any college at NYU (which, in turn, receives the most apps of any private school in the US). Chances between Stern and CAS are negligible.

SAT is just barely the 25%

GPA is below average (NYU average is an A-).

Your scores won't automatically rule you out, but is it a reach school for you.

@NYU2013 Thanks for the input, tbh "NO chance at all" is a quite discouraging after I've worked so hard on my essays, I understand its a pretty high reach, even just a chance is worth trying for in my book :D ..Would you recommend my addressing of my gpa in addition to my other essays, basically I was immature didn't see the importance in school, but later on matured and have an upward trend in my GPA. I was hoping my ECs would help makeup for my lacking in other areas. Thanks again NYU2013!! I hope your loving New York! :D

Upwards trend is good. Immaturity isn't a reason to address your upward GPA in another essay or in any essay.

However, your ECs don't count for much. Your test scores and GPA are the most important things to NYU. So, just remember, it's highly unlikely you will get in - NYU is a very large reach for you. I say this because I'd hate for you to get your hopes up and then face a rejection. Good luck to you

Who knows...I was accepted to nyu with lower stats

PS; CAS is def easier to get into than STERN. But both are by no means pushover schools. They are just outside of the ivies, both actually beating or equal to in some majors...but they just weren't the original colleges in the northeast.

I don't think you're a complete rule out - my friend applied ED to Stern with pretty low stats comparatively and he got in. So you might have a chance. All the stats we see are always average, there are always some lower or higher
