Steve Jobs resigns from Apple

Just saw this on the news. Think what you may about Apple as a corporation, but the report I saw said he had made it very clear after his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer that, when he got to the point that his illness prevented him from doing his job, he would resign.

I know his day-to-day involvement in the running of the company has ebbed and flowed, but this decision seems to be permanent.

I’m guessing his disease has progressed and he won’t live long.

I hate that. Have always admire the guy. What a shame.

Thanks, Teri. Here is the text of his resignation letter:

So sad. Cancer will claim another bright human being.

just heard this, such a shame.

He is truly a genius and I am so sad to read this letter.

Your time is limited,*
so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.*
Don’t be trapped by dogma,*
which is living with the results of
other people’s thinking.*
Don’t let the noise*
of other people’s opinions*
drown out you own inner voice.*
And most important,
have the courage to follow*
your heart and intuition.*
They somehow already know*
what you truly want to become.*
Everything else is secondary.”

Steve Jobs…

Wow, but to go out on top, that is the best way to do it. Good for him!

A great man.

I like his products. I’m glad, I think, that I didn’t have to report to him.

I wonder about this. The letter has the flavor that perhaps he felt it necessary to publicly announce his preferred successor. Maybe this was already known, but if not, it does box the board in just a bit. Perhaps he felt the need to do this while he could.

This news’ impact on stock market will be compared to Washington’s!

His speech at Stanford will be part of his legacy!

Really sad, the circumstances, for Jobs. Will be a tough act to follow.

Sorry to hear about his declining health.

xiggi, he’s been bumped upstairs to Chairman. He’s is not gone from Apple, he’s just FORMALLY turning over the day to day operations to the man who “essentially” has been in charge for 3 years.

It’s the end of a true legend.

MPM, I am truly afraid that this not much of a promotion. I am also afraid that the stock market will not consider this very positive. AAPL down 5 to 6 percent after hours!

Time to buy Apple stock if prices drop more.

This is so sad. He is an inspiration.

I’m buying tomorrow based on the assumption that Apple stock will drop down. The company is rock solid, they are sitting on 70 Billion, and growth is going through the roof.

Sad to see Steve Jobs stepping down and of course, concened about his health also. Even though he is still involved, it feels like the end of an era. Love Apple products. Bought my first computer at college in about '89 and it was a Macintosh. Loved it!

Wrote my paper in college about him…that was in 1988! Today my son is absolutely fanatic about Steve and Apple!! Must say he hasn’t left our family and will always be there. He has changed the way this world communicates today.

Wishing he gets better fast! Prayers always help.
