Steve McNair, Former Titans QB, Murdered in Nashville

We are reeling here from this breaking news. McNair and a woman were found shot to death this afternoon in a condo just south of downtown Nashville. McNair was a beloved sports hero and a real contributor to the Nashville and middle Tennessee community. No further info yet.

Just saw that on the web. So sorry MOWC. Please post details if you hear them

They are reporting it was Steve and his girlfiriend, but no name yet as her next of kin has not been notifed. No other details. TRAGIC. He was dead of a gunshot wound to the head. She was also shot.

The Titans are by far my favorite NFL team and I remember so fondly what an amazing player he was for our team. He will be missed by Tennessee, The NFL and beyond. Truly tragic.

I wonder if it was a murder-suicide or a double murder?

Double murder.

So sad…

A very early report said that Mcnair’s girlfriend (NOT his wife) shot him and then killed herself. However that was almost immediately taken back by whoever published it.

I think based on the position of the bodies that it was a double homicide- according to all the news we are getting right now.

Sounds like a murder-suicide. He was shot multiple times. She had a single bullet wound and the gun found next to her. Police are saying they are not currently looking for a suspect.

Just awful. McNair was one of my all time favorites.

Yes, now they are leaning towards murder (by the woman) suicide. The woman was arrested 2 days ago on DUI charges. She was a joint owner of his Escalade. She was 20.

i just heard of this late tonight. very tragic. will be interesting to see what comes out tomorrow on the story. there was mention on the news…something about the vehicle being associated with a restaurant, i think. was it same one where the woman worked?

So sad. Does he have children? It is looking more and more like a mess. He was shot multiple times, she only once with the pistol found near her, and no sign of forced entry. She was 20 years old. Sounds like she was living like she was 30. A tragedy.

According to an article I read this morning: McNair was 36, married.
The woman described as a “friend” by police was arrested for DUI a couple days ago. McNair was a passenger in the vehicle at the time. He jointly owned the Cadillac Escalade with her. She was single, 20, a waittress at Dave and Busters.
Police at the scene said she did not appear to be involved[meaning as the perpetrator] but that they weren’t looking for suspects that night. A witness that night saw him enter the condo around 1:30 in the morning, and that her Escalade was already there. According to the article McNair and a male friend of his jointly rented the condo.

A report this morning said that he and his wife have four sons. Very sad, indeed. One has to wonder what the heck a 36 year old married father of four is doing with a 20 year old girlfriend.

The sad thing is that he was a true idol (and not just because of football)- especially to many of the blacks here who saw the good McNair did for their community and how he tried to better himself in many ways. His new restaurant was to be the next phase of his life. Who knows what was going on with the 20 year old and jointly owning the Escalade…

I don’t know what was going on, but for now, one can only speculate:

why he was joint owners of an escalade with the young woman,
how a waittress could afford even 1/2 of the cost of such a vehicle,
Why he rented a condo with a buddy, tho he was married with kids
Why he was visiting with a single 20 yr old woman at about 1:30 a.m.

One might guess his giving to the community might have been more than just well-known charities. He may have also been giving to the community one young woman at a time.
This could prove to be an unknown masked intruder but my speculation is that murder-suicide more likely, or a jealous ex-boyfriend, or jealous wife.

The police have gone on record that they are not looking for ANY suspects. While they will not go on record yet that this was a murder-suicide, it clearly looks that way if they are not looking for any outside party.

And a 20 yo waitress does not afford half of an Escalade. I am sure he bought it FOR HER but put his name on the title as well.

Oh, ya think?

His death now ruled a homicide; her death still unclassified. I read police are now saying it was his girlfriend and that they had been dating for some time. The family of the young woman say that she thought he was going to get a divorce so the 2 could marry.

Is it really called “dating” when one is already married?
