Steven Tyler Quits AI...what former Idol could judge???

Tyler quitting is no real surprise.

There is some talk that Adam Lambert is involved in some talks to be a judge. Nothing against Adam, but I don’t see him spending his time sitting in a judges chair each week.

What former Idol (doesn’t have to be someone who won, but did well - say top 10 for sure-) would you nominate to be a regular judge?

Not a former contestant, but Jimmy Iovine would make an awesome judge.

Jimmy would be an interesting addition. I usually like his advice/suggestions - but they are often at odds with what the judges think. Could be fun.

Jimmy is the true professional. Not obsessed with himself as all the other judges have been, but trying to improve the contestants. I hope he does it. I don’t want just another celebrity, that wears thin very quickly, though they are interesting at first. I’d like to see a pro do it.

Then again, some of the celebrity judges were pretty good. Gwen Stefani, Harry Connick jr, but I doubt they’d do it.

As far as Steven Tyler quitting, all I have to say is, “Beautiful, just beautiful!”

Would LOVE to see Harry Connick, Jr. Gwen Stefani - maybe.

I can see one of them doing it as a part-time gig, but not full-time.

Lambert is currently on tour with Queen.

He’d be a great judge for Idol and probably a good career move for him.

Adam … Who? Seriously!

Love Adam Lambert. He’s an incredibly talented artist. But he’s not right to judge AI.

I think a series of guest judges would be great, though to be honest, I don’t watch anymore. However a friend of DS auditioned today and is going to Hollywood!

"Love Adam Lambert. He’s an incredibly talented artist. But he’s not right to judge AI.’

I agree. I would like to see someone who is very experienced in analyzing and building artists, not those who have only been focused on their own careers. Though I would love to see Adam perform again.

Cool about your daughter’s friend, MizzBee. Later on, let us know who he or she is!

It is a he, and I will be telling everyone when he makes it to voting.

I thought Sheryl Crow did a great job and had helpful hints for the contestants a couple of years ago (Scotty McCreery year).

…Sanjaya

Clay Aiken. I’m dead serious. His performance on The Celebrity Apprentice revealed him to be extremely smart, witty, and entertaining.

I’m in the Jimmy Iovine camp myself. He’d be awesome!

As far as ‘star power’ (and I use that term loosely), word is besides Lambert, AI is rumored to be talking to Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Nicki Manaj, and Fergie. Not a fan of any of these, but it would seem (if true) they are looking to compete with X Factor who brought on young blood for next season.

With Steven Tyler and JoLo going they have at least two chairs to fill.

Good luck to your sons friend MizzBee, that’s very exciting!! I have a friend who’s son made it to the top 10 a couple of years ago. As I remember he got knocked out around 7-8, came home, finished college, and now tours with his band.

Actually, Ben Folds is available…The Sing-Off has been cancelled. He was the most articulate, musically-knowledgable, constructive judge on any TV singing show I’ve ever seen.

Keep in mind, the question posed at the beginning of the thread is which former IDOL contestant would be good as judge - if we throw all the others in that’s a whole new thread!

It actually is a tough question for me to answer …

Ah, yes, sorry. Then I’ll stand by my suggestion of Clay Aiken.

:) I do have to admit while NOT an Idol, but an Idol PERSON, I want to see Jimmy continue in some way on the show.

Clay could be good, but I do believe that there was not the most friendly relationship between him and the AI powers-that-be. I do believe he would be firm, offer constructive criticism and he certainly can have the snark needed to make the show enjoyable. But, also true, that his style of music is not really contemporary so not sure how he would feel judging the more current styles of music that appear.

Don’t know that she would be up for it, but how about Kelly Clarkston???
