<p>I’m a junior in high school right now, and i was really interested in Stevens Institure of Technology, but i don’t have that many extracuriculars. I was on the track team in 9th and 10th grade, and was on the trivia team this year as a junior. Outside of school, i have been working at my dad’s gas station since 9th grade. i’m going to try to get a couple more next year as a senior. how important do they regard extracuricular activities during admissions? And give recomendation or advice if you can. Thanks.</p>

<p>I think if your grades are within reason and you’ve been busy working at your dad’s gas station, they will understand the lack of ECs. </p>
<p>My son is an athlete and his sport has taken so much of his time that he has few ECs. If my son gets an “EC pass” because he was involved in sports, you certainly should get a “pass” if you were working!</p>
<p>I’d talk to the admissions person for your region and discuss it. There is a reason kids work rather than enjoy the diversity of extra curricular activities. Be frank with them. </p>
<p>I’m not connected or anything, so I’m speaking without any authority here, but I’d be saddened to learn someone like yourself, hard working, would be turned down because of a lack in ECs.</p>
<p>I just got accepted into Stevens 
One thing to remember is that all applicants will be interviewed so there could be your chance to explain why you don’t have too many ECs. I worked in my family business too and I told my interviewer that. I think they really look for a well-rounded person. I mean just look at my stats. I’m not a genius but I have a few ECs to balance me out.</p>
<p>My Stats:
SAT: 1880
GPA. 3.6 unweighted and 4.6 weighted
ECs: National Honor Society Vice President, Student Council co-chair, Rotary Soup Kitchen co-chair, etc.</p>
<p>Otherwise, I would make sure to keep up your grades, do well on your SAT and maybe take on a few more ECs. If you could get a leadership position in something, I think it would really help your application.</p>
