Sticky Situation

This is a dialogue between me and my teacher/coach, which happened the other week. Thinking over my words, I have come to realize that I might have come across as a bit rude. So one, was I inconsiderate? If so, how much? And even though it’s been a week, and nothing’s happened to me, should I go apologize to the teacher (just in case?)

Some background: this is a coach whose team I’ve joined twice in the past and quit twice. When I’m not on the team he likes to sweet-talk me about joining the team again.

Me: “Hey, coach, I noticed that you aren’t smiling or winking at me any more and asking me to join the team again! - not that I want to, of course!!”

Coach: “You got your own thing you want to do. We still all right, though.”

Me (smirking): “Well, you know what they say … fool them once … fool them twice … all right, have a good day!” (I walk away after this).

Thinking over my words I think I’ve come off as slightly inconsiderate.

Should I apologize?

There’s no harm in apologizing and a great deal of upside.

I agree. An apology shows maturity and you will feel better for doing it.

Yes, an apology is in order. And you know, if you are thinking about it, it’s the right thing to do.

Your teacher will appreciate it.

I don’t even understand what your comment meant? But if you feel like you were disrespectful, it would be easy enough to say, “Hey, I hope you know I didn’t mean to be disrespectful the other day, and etc . . .” It sounds like you and he have a nice, bantering type of relationship, but sometimes joking remarks can come across in a way they were not meant, definitely.

It’s never wrong or weak to apologize. I do think you were kind of rude. He will respect you for apologizing.

Is the teacher really winking at you?? because winking can mean flirting and that should NOT be happening between a teacher and a student.

I’m confused.
