Hi, I’m a freshman in HS. EC’s are only freshman football. Going to try out for the quire tomorrow. I’m halfway through freshman year, MAP scores were mediocre, no honors classes- only accelerated classes and I didn’t do so well last semester. Including me about to join band and quire, is there still a hope for a full-ride scholarship?
It’s choir.
A full ride scholarship…to where?
You are a freshman in high school. At this point, you do t have an SAT or ACT score. You have a GPA from the first semester if your first HS year and that’s all.
You need to get the best possible grades you can get. You need to get the best SAT or ACT scores you can get. You need to take a strong courseload.
It’s WAYYYYY to early to tell you whether you will get a full ride scholarship.
But I will say…they go t9 the tippy tippy top accepted students if you are talking merit awards.
If you are talking full need based aid, the schools that award full rides are highly competitive for admissions.
So…in either case…you need a tippy top application to submit for admissions.
Thanks, thumper. The ultimate goal is UPenn for me. Still possible?
UPenn is an ivy. Ivy schools don’t give academic scholarships.
Just get the best grades you can. You don’t have to start worrying about college for another 2 years. You’re a teenager! Go date girls and hang out with friends…just don’t set anything on fire
UPenn is highly competitive for admissions…HIGHLY. The school gives need based aid ONLY.
If you become a top 5% student and also a stellar football player, Penn will probably consider you, but the only way to get a full ride there would be to have a very low family income.
First, as Thumper says, focus on your grades. Get the best grades you can possibly get. As you progress through school, look for extracurricular opportunities. Volunteering is fantastic on applications. When it is time, make sure you take prep courses for your SAT/ACTs. If you want motivation, look up the Colleges that Change Lives. It is a list of 40 small liberal arts schools that rival ivy league schools for their quality of education. They are very generous with merit scholarships. Each of the schools on the list will lead to great opportunities upon graduation. Build your foundation one semester at a time.
