Also showed up this morning, and we also were later last time.
My D received hers today. She was in the first wave the last time as well. I hope this roll out will be smoother and more efficient because all the needed info is already in the system from the last round.
Nothing here yet; we were in the second wave last time after inputting direct deposit info (since we had owed on our taxes, not refunded). We do have SSA direct deposits.
My son texted me he got his. His GF has not received notice yet. Last time they both got them about the same time.
Ours came as did our older son’s. Our middle child has not gotten his yet. Youngest isn’t eligible since she was our dependent in 2019 but is older than 17.
While I’m not sure what the purpose is of posting if you got one (or worrying of you didn’t) - anyone care to share (totally optional) how your gain will be used? Even if saying savings, spending locally, paying bills, etc
That’s how I see the point of stimulus - to either assist with an important need in your household (rent, bills, repair, food) or $ to stimulate the economy.
(If you feel this is off topic for the thread I’ll bow out or start a new thread - jist saw this as becoming a reporting thread)
Last spring the payments came out in multiple waves. Also the IRS did not have direct deposit info for many people. That is why this thread was started so we could let others know our status, especially compared to the spring.
there was a similar thread in the spring.
And that’s why this is redux! I just wanted to alert people about how this round was being handled.
Answering @abasket ‘s question - My son and his GF consciously spent their first checks, figuring that’s what they were supposed to do with that money. (They are both very frugal, generally speaking). I know my son said he planned to use the second one for new bike related expenses. I don’t know yet what she will use hers for.
We didn’t get one last time and we won’t this time.
Last time all my kids and SO got them. I think this time only my youngest and her H will get the full amount. Last time she wasn’t working due to Covid and it was helpful. Her H donated his last time to an out of work friend. My son in law to my dismay is a bit of a libertarian. He doesn’t feel that people like himself who are fully employed should be getting a stimulus. I’m sure he will again give his to someone who needs it.
My other kids both banked the money last time and I think they will do the same again. Both are lucky to make over $75,000 so won’t get the full amount.
I would have rather seen more money going to the unemployed.
I don’t know how I can anticipate when. The tracking site has been closed for now.
While I’m happy for those who received the $, this is like the covid shots thread. Your success doesn’t relate to me.
That’s all.
So boring. We will hire a plumber to do some work that isn’t an emergency but needs to be done. Supporting a small business but I’m not sure that plumbers aren’t super busy. I know contractors are.
Ours will be donated - likely to the local food bank that also helps people with other household expenses as they have need. It was last time too. I wish there were an easier way for the gov’t to know who needed the checks and who didn’t, but I understand that they really can’t do that so we’re taking the position as middle man.
Our kids have used the money to pay bills. They are all young and starting out in life so bills are many while income is less. We still earn < 150K as a couple, but since the bulk of our non-bill spending was on travel and we have a decent emergency fund, we’re not in any danger of being unable to pay bills.
There are things I want to have done on our house (replacing old torn carpets, painting walls, adding a second bathroom, and possibly an official office), but prices right now are high and quite honestly, it just doesn’t seem right to me to toss stimulus money into a savings fund for that when others are truly haven’t trouble getting food to eat or need help paying heating bills/rent. We’ll continue to save for those things out of our earnings.
As far as the “who gets it and why should other people” question someone asked – there are plenty of non-“unemployed” people who can really use a boost. My sister lives on disability–about 12,000 a year. My D was looking for work after being home with their first for a year, but Covid hit and she can’t find anything. They live on very, very little and were counting on adding the second income. Every bit helps for them. Lower income working people overall are bringing home less than unemployment plus the extra boost.
I’m not “low” income–but with a furlough, a higher work load, and canceled COL, plus my H losing the extra he made tutoring, we have definitely experienced a more than stimulus loss of income.
I definitely think that the unemployment extra payments should be continued at the higher rate that it was this summer. But the argument of pitting one group against another, who all could use it, is tired for me. These bills are full of giveaways to the rich that I could question. But I won’t question a simple boost that millions really need and should have been higher.
I briefly looked back and didn’t see anyone mention this? Maybe I missed it, and if so, I apologize. However, if you’re referring to my post, I was firmly in favor of the 2K suggested by Powers That Be as I personally feel that amount would help people far more than what passed. But something is better than nothing and I’m not among those who feel nothing should have been given.
My comment wishing the gov’t could tell who needs it or not is just that. I wish there were a way they could tell, but I know there is no scenario where this is possible so we, personally, will act as a middle man. If others in “our” situation use or save (or whatever) their money, I don’t give a hoot. Their choice. We’re doing what we feel is right knowing our circumstances.
Not yours, @Creekland.
I don’t like the pitting of one group against another, even when meant well. First of all, it’s called a stimulus. Secondly, when three martini lunch write-offs have been included back into the tax code with this bill, I think we can include something for the waitstaff serving them.
If you do not need the $600 then donate it to your local food bank. They can certainly put it to good use to help those in need.
Amen! I could say more, but it’s probably not allowed on this forum.
The pending payment is in our bank account this morning. I would like to use some to support local restaurants via take out, but mainly it will go back to the IRS later this month as 4th quarter estimated taxes.
" Lower income working people overall are bringing home less than unemployment."
So true. So sorry. And yet, there they are, working- not just for their own needs, but to keep us going.
I wouldn’t mind an ongoing supplement to those folks and better than an occasional $600 or $1200 (I’m referring to the hourly or low income, not executive sorts.) In every case I know of (mostly through my girls,) these are folks who have honestly been working and now see hours reduced.
I know there is (or was) ‘partial unemployment,’ but handling this during covid sounds complicated.
What this thread and similar show is that many of us do care.
