Stimulus Payment Redux

According to the Treasury Secretary, checks could start being deposited as soon as tonight; the

agency has delivered payment instructions to the Federal Reserve and some payments could arrive in accounts by direct deposit as early as Tuesday night. He said the deposit process will continue into next week. Paper checks will begin to be mailed Wednesday.
People will be able to check the status of their stimulus payment later this week at irs.gov/getmypayment.

We owed taxes for 2019, so in the spring I filled out the direct deposit form online and we were in the second wave of direct deposits for the first stimulus payment. It appears that info will carry through to this payment.

This gives some good info: Stimulus checks: Last day for direct deposit payment before the IRS mails your $1,400 - CNET

Description of the stimulus amounts, including how filing status and income affect them:

Last time I filled out the direct deposit on the website but we had our refund applied so I ended up with a check. I wonder what will happen this time.

Wish they would have included older (college age) kids this time.

no kidding.
for my retired inlaws and parents and even us it doesn’t make much difference . . . but I know some college kids who are really down and out right now; broken cars so they can’t even get to the food bank :disappointed_relieved: Those are the ones who could use it!

A co worker shared with me this morning that she was surprised by an email letting her know a direct deposit from the IRS had been made. When she checked her bank account, it was the stimulus payment.

We have not received the first EIP yet, although we filed early in 2020 and a refund was direct deposited into our bank account. The chance of receiving the second EIP in a timely fashion seems low. We’ll probably just have to take the credit in 2021, because a complaint to our senator is unlikely to produce action at this time of year, especially under these conditions. We’ll see.

I received mine this morning.

For those who have received your checks, were you in the first wave last time?

I checked my account and the ACH is scheduled for release on Monday, 1/4. Daughter’s too.

Last time we were also in the first release date, 4/15. A friend had received her notice earlier than me, but hers also had a 4/15 release, so I think that was the earliest date for payment.

My brother filed late so didn’t get a payment until June. His goes to an account with a debit card, so I’ll ask him if he has any indication it is pending.

None here yet. We were late getting it last time, so I don’t expect it soon yet. We didn’t get a refund, so we had to update our bank info on the website. Hopefully that will be still applicable and we won’t get delayed much this time.

Yep, two of my kids received theirs yesterday. Amazing how efficient the gov’t is about some things and so inefficient about many other things.

No. My son still didn’t receive his $1,200 from last time because in 2018 he earned too much money and in 2019 I filed his taxes after April 15 so I think that’s where the disconnect is. I’ll have to deal with the credit when I file his 2020 return. No idea why he got it so quickly other than he’s on direct deposit for his refunds.

My daughter’s return was filed right around April 15 and she did receive the $1,200 very quickly last year so for her, yes could be.

Both their amounts actually show pending until Monday so maybe that’s why we see them as of yesterday relative to others because they have the same bank.

We have a pending IRS payment that has been in our account since yesterday morning; still pending. The amount is not an even $600, so we are thinking maybe a refund for over payment, but not aware of a refund. Those that have received the payment, was it for $600?

It could also be a different amount due to the phaseout of income levels about $150k for married couples and if you have dependents for the stimulus. More than likely it would be something like that than an IRS refund.

My brother received his onto a debit card, without even a hold; his first one was delayed because he hadn’t filed, so this one is ‘caught up’. Our ACH to be released 1/4/21 may be because of the bank holiday tomorrow, so Monday is two banking days away.

I can wait that long.

Yes, $600 unless you made over $75k for a single filer.

DH told me that we received ours today. I was surprised it was so quick!!
