Would you or let your parent take out your own Stitches? Instead of going back to the Doctor?

yes…all he did was cut them with scissors and pull them out with tweezers…dont need a degree to do that.

haha. i took out the stitches from having my wisdom teeth taken out. made the follow-up appt. go faster.

Dont they usually use sutures that disolve for that. My mom is a dentist. maybe you had a bigger hole.

After each of my multiple knee surgeries, my stitches have either fallen out on their own, or I’ve cut them myself.
I think a lot of it depends on where the stitches are. A knee is okay to do on your own, but an abdomen or head wound is a little more risky. I wouldn’t want my mom coming at my face with scissors.
And if you do decide to do it yourself, or have your parents do it, be SURE that your wound is healed enough!

And why is this on the college life page?

This is the Most general forum availible.

I’ve heard of people having someone else take out stitches - but it’s something like the arm after having a mole removed. The only time I’ve needed to have the doctor take them out (okay, all the time!) is when the doc needs to do follow-up on the wound - things like getting a cut that goes down to the bone or being hit by a car and having a huge gash.
