Stocking Stuffer ideas?

Wow some pretty nice stuff goes in those stockings! I fear I not keeping up with the Santas:). What about an apple and an orange? Some nuts? Some chocolate. That is what Santa would put in my stocking as a girl and a few surprises.

Moreover: Santa brings us chocolate oranges and Sees candy. Wind up toys are fun time suckers. ThinkGeek has cute thumb drives and gadgets.

I always put and apple, orange, quarter ( 50p), some cold coins in the bottom of the kids stockings. My mum did the same for us growing up. I guess it related back to the war when fresh fruit was a real treat in the UK.

Favorites- hair ties, body shop body butter, lip gloss, chap stick, origins perfume rolls, aveda hand cream.

You mothers of duaghters have it so easy. ;)

My husband likes these Wurkin Stiffs magnetic collar stays. He doesn’t have to wear a tie to work so the collars on his dress shirts don’t stand up nicely. These little gizmos are great for keeping them looking good. They’d make perfect stocking stuffers.

How about a key finder? I know several people in our house who need one: [Amazon.com: Click n Dig Key Finder Wireless RF Item Locator Remote Control, Pet, Wallet, Keyfinder-Free Extra Batteries: Electronics](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BK54RM?ie=UTF8&tag=treasubybrend-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001BK54RM)

Wow, I now have five tabs open to websites for stocking stuffers. I could end up spending way too much here.

For Secret Santa at work, I got my co-worker a Fandango gift card, and it occurred to me that would make a good stocking stuffer.

Our stockings at home feature pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, silly cheap toys, Jelly Belly and/or Sees, gift cards for Starbucks or Jamba Juice, maybe some socks or lip gloss.

for the guys I second the headlamp and microfiber cloths. I’ve also gone to car stores and done things like emergency flares, air freshener, etc.

Other staples: nail clippers, decks of cards, travel-sized games.

Guys in my house are big fans of moisturizers…especially occitane…moisturizers and tires…just saying.

We should have a thread on “stockings from our youth” - our stockings, which were made by nuns from a convent in Montreal and had our names in tiny beads across the top, always had an orange, pencil (one) and Hershey’s kisses. For my grandmother’s Christmas, in the late 1800s maritimes, each child received an orange. No stockings, no other gifts, just a rare tropical treat that arrived by boat and was talked about with wonder 75 years later.

The stocking of my youth: always a popcorn ball in the toe. For my husband, it was a Chunky bar. And - God help us - candy cigarettes!

Loving this thread for the great ideas. We had a similar one a few years ago: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/824655-christmas-stockings.html?highlight=stocking</a></p>

Someone mentioned Staples. In the past I have bought the little cubes of sticky notes…those are also things that can be expensive for college students.

I like the sticky note idea.

Stocking of my youth contained candy and always an orange in the toe. No gifts. And no fancy stockings, either. We used my Dad’s socks (clean of course!).

They have some Dr. Who sticky notes on the unemployed philosopher site. Fun for any Dr. Who fans. They have a funny video you can watch about them too.

I remember grandparents talking about getting an orange in their stocking. It was a treat back then. No, not so much when you can walk into any grocery store any time of they year and pick from 10 different varieties of oranges.

When I was a kid, my brothers and I always got a jar of pickles and a can of nuts. My kids get the nuts, they never understood the pickles.

My favorite thing as a kid was those plastic candy canes with candy in them. I always put those in everyone’s stocking.

We are Jewish so don’t even have Christmas stockings! But the ideas are good for finding 8 days’ worth of little gifts for Chanukah.

Oldmom-I don’t envy you that task, has always seemed to me to far more difficult than a single day’s event where the gift that falls flat can always be overlooked by one that’s a success. Do you start out small and build, or is it all over the place as far as size/cost/significance?

Sometimes I buy a random magazine and roll it up and put it in the stocking. On Christmas break, they actually have time to read it!! :)

I also usually put their gift cards in the stocking - each wrapped individually. I wrap the stocking gifts - do you? Just a quick rough wrap. My mom did not wrap ours when we were little, but I started when I was little cause my kids got such a kick out of the whole unwrapping process. Our stockings take forever to get through but the kids LOVE them!
