Stoic VS epicurean

Hello . I am having difficulty with this essay I am trying to write . Our teacher told us to write an essay arguing which one of the two Odysseus can be be best categorized as.

I am having difficulty understanding the difference between the two. I just wanted to know if someone could explain the difference to me.

It’s my understanding that stoic is more along the lines of hardly ever emotional while epicurean is more along the lines of ascetic.

So, a person who’s rarely emotional (sad/happy/angry) would be stoic; a person who isn’t lavish and enjoys the simple pleasure of life would be epicurean.

But please, check Wikipedia and wait for some other opinions. I may not be entirely accurate.

^
Epicurean is opposite what you said. Epicurean is some one who is lavish and who enjoys the pleasure of life.

I haven’t read anything about Odysseus, but I would guess that he would be stoic. In those days, for men to show emotions shows weakness so being stoic shows strength.
