stomach bugs

Oh for the love of all that is holy… why? TT_TT

So far its just been the runs from ****. My temp when i got back to my aparment from walking across campus was between 96.8 to 97.0. Now it is around my normal body temp of 97.8. I also have bright red blood in my stool (tmi sorry). Never had that before.

I feel like crap though and cant be away from the bathroom for very long. Went to my first class late and was back and forth several times before my prof said i could leave.

I have made an appointment at the student health center and will be going there shortly.

The problem is i have two classes this evening where attendence is manditory. Do you think it would be alright if i missed and i got a doctors note?

I’ve lived with stomach issues for many years and a gallbladder ddying on me. But this takes the cake. I’m just so tired, slightly cold, and icky feeling.

icedragon-
You need to see what the health center has to say. After that you must email your profs if you are not going to class. Actually, you should email them even if you haven’t decided whether you will go. Who knows they may say ‘rest and we’ll see you at the next class’.
In any case, feel better soon.

Take Lomotil to curb the runs and drink ginger ale to stay hydrated. Feel better!

Your temp varies a lot during the day. You’re not running a fever. The blood absolutely needs to be discussed with a doctor, unless you ate beets, in which case it’s the beet coloring you’re seeing.

You may have a food-borne infection–that can give you blood like that. Go the the health service and get a doctor’s note.

Just got back. Doctors diagnosis was gastroanteritis (sp?). I’m on the BRAT diet for the next couple of days and have been excused from class for today. I did have a fever when i got there. She felt the blood was most likely because i was irritated from all of this down there.

Now to try and contact my last professor today about my missing today. Mind you, i go to one of his wife’s classes and it waas fine for me to miss with her. So hopefully, it will be the same with him.

Gastroenteritis with an e. Aka, a stomach bug. Could be a norovirus.

Probably. I talked with the last prof. I told him i was sick, he took one look at me, told me to sign the attendence sheet, and told me to go home. Yay?

I made some chicken and rice soup with some veggies (onions and carrots). It didnt sit well at first, but it stayed down.

Drink water, even if you don’t feel like it. You really need to stay hydrated. You’re losing a lot of water everytime you go.

And, this is probably also TMI – but take gentle care of the skin and mucous membranes “down there.” You can get very irritated very fast.

NO onions, no veggies, no fat. BRAT diet is bananas, rice, apple juice, tea. You must stay on this for 3 days or your intestinal tract will not heal. If you start feeling better, you can slowly advance your diet over the next week. I am impressed however that you made your own soup! Try to rest, drink water too as advised by veryhappy. Feel better.

Toast, not tea. And applesauce, not apple juice. (The latter contains loads of sugar, which won’t help.) Or at least that’s how I’ve always understood the acronym.

eh, perhaps i jumped the gun. Oh well. My own fault. I heard somewhere that carrots help stop a part of the stomach upset. I have no excuse for the onions. She stressed that i couldn’t have dairy for a few days though…

As for making the soup, i no longer trust canned stuff and its easier to just make my own. Toss some chicken into a pot of water, boil for about an hour (or until it hits 165-170). Remove, shred. Add veggies, cook them for another 30 minutes. Toss chicken back in. Warm for about 10. Add rice to the bottom of a bowl, ladle soup over top. Wala.

You can cook the broth longer, add more seasonings, and whatnot for hours on end. It turned out pretty good.

Booklady, thats what it is.

At least my temp has gone back to its normal range. I am feeling a little bit better. So hopefully, i’ll be able to go to class tommorow. Just two, a lecture and a lab (where we will have a test). I’ll be done by noon.

165 is marginal, especially for you! Boil stuff.

Ramp those temps up to the “fry the bacteria” zone.

180 is better for killing Salmonella

The word is “voila.” French, for “there it is.”

no veggies on the BRAT diet!! Chicken technically isn’t on it either.

Bananas, rice, applesauce & toast. that’s it.

Gatorade is a good option to rehydrate.
