Short and simple- im a junior who went to visit Stony Brook after being advised to. I love stony’s programs and opportunities and based on that alone, I wanted to seriously consider it. However, after visiting the campus, it felt so… dead. Dreary vibe, nobody really out doing anything too fun, didn’t seem to active. The dorms were also very unimpressive; the newer dorms looked incredible but the old ones not so much. I looked online and apparently stony is known for kids coming home on weekends and there not being much of a campus community. Is this true? If so, Im probably gonna have to push it off my list, I don’t know what id do without a college community/support.
No feedback but it’s an overwhelmingly in state population (using what College Factual, third party shows - I’m sure SB can validate for you) and given where the population sits in the state, likely mostly within an easy proximity.
Others there can tell you but just looking at the #s, it’s likely true - even though the school is certainly growing in stature.
And if so, there’s tons of great school - so that’s ok.
