anyone know how good their Musical Theatre Programs are and if they even have Musical Theatre and not just straight Theatre with some Musicals thrown in. Thanks.

Not sure about Stony Brook or Hunter, but Montclair does have a Musical Theatre program.
Stony Brook, like all SUNY schools is under severe financial strain. First things first, Stony Brook has no MT program. Secondly, due to financial cuts, they have no production money and are not producing any shows this season.

Anybody know about Hunter?

Hunter doesn’t have musical theatre. They do have a theatre major, but it isn’t performance based. It focuses mainly on studying all aspects of theater (lighting, sound, costumes, set design, etc). I was told it’s more for non performers because there aren’t many required performing classes.

Montclair has an excellent MT program; I have seen some fine productions there. They have a beautiful new theater facility. Be aware, though, that as a NJ State University they have been experiencing some financial cutbacks, like the SUNY schools.
