Stop kony 2012

Watch this video to become AWARE.

[KONY 2012 - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4MnpzG5Sqc)

This means YOU!

I’ve been seeing this KONY stuff all up and down the internet today. What makes the call to elimination of this guy, suddenly it seems, such an exigent matter? I think most people are aware that there’s a lot of crappy stuff happening in certain parts of Africa–and in different parts of the rest of the world, for that matter. But why’s Kony the man? And do people expect the grooming of child soldiers to become, magnificently, some antiquity once this dickhead is deposed or shot through the head or whatever else? I’m not saying we shouldn’t go after the bad guys. (We should.) I’m just thoroughly interested whenever one of these things pops up on the Web. It seems sort of like one of those fruitless little facebook trends–“Make your profile picture into a cartoon character to end child abuse!”–to sweep one’s fingers athwart the keyboard and feel greatly contented, holier even.

So, someone with the same feelings posted this link up on facebook, and it’s not only a good little read but the product of two awesome people (anyone a nerdfighter?): fishingboatproceeds.■■■■■■■■■■/post/18888907871/kony-2012

If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you might have heard that Obama authorized the deployment of a hundred U.S. spec ops troops into Central Africa. Presumably Joseph Kony is the highly prioritized target they are looking for, considering that he is the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army which has been terrorizing the region for a long time.

I sort of agree with you about the whole “trend” thing. I personally have been keeping up with low-key events like this for years so looking at all these recent pop-ups did take me a bit by surprise. But it’s a good thing that people are becoming aware of stuff like this. More awareness = more support. Hey, at least this is better than most crap on the internet …

STOP KONY 2012!!! No more African kids need to be kidnapped! Act now ppls

^^@KarmaGo. Yes, Obama has sent 100 troops to help with intelligence gathering against LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) last year.

For those that don’t know, Kony has been doing this since 1986.

Better late then never.

I believe matters like this suddenly are exposed because social media marketing is free and it is easy. The media never brings up matters like this because the situation wont benefit the american economy in any way. so they push it under the rug, America only helps those countries who it will receive direct benefit from. That is why middle eastern countries are being helped “overthrow” dictators obviously these countries are oil bearing countries who we will benefit from if we position our political figure heads. America has always had its secret agenda to fulfill if invading a country. The media only exposes those stories which will directly benefit the US economy( don’t think millions of people didn’t already know about this kony guy).

Facebook is a fairly recent resource used to spread advertising and the word of injustice and what not. This is why in recent time it’s the people who expose stories like this, obviously the government has no interest in wasting money on something where they receive no benefit, its the people who influence the government to fight for what they want.

just my 2 cents on why stories like this are suddenly brought up :)

It’s a trend because Invisible Children just created this drive. They’ve been doing good work for years and they especially target young people high school to college age (they’re come to my school), so many of them picked up the campaign as it began and spread it around. Personally, I hate most Facebook trends and “Facebook activism” but this is well worth it and I have to say that I absolutely love this organization. It’s worth looking them up.

^ Funny you mention Invisible Children (IC); I was just reading about them!

So, apparently, not only has Joe Kony been out of Uganda since ~2006, the money donated to IC is used, in large part, to purchase weapons for Ugandan armed forces. Furthermore, there have been many cases, in recent years, of these Ugandan soldiers roving about, with menacing weaponry, of course, and raping/generally messing with other Ugandans–because they have the power, the means . . . because they can.

There’s more on IC, regarding how ineffective their skills with money are, w/r/t what they should be spending toward, but I’ll let the above bit digest. Let me know if you want more reason not to support IC.

P.S. Kony’s still, undeniably, an evil man, and though his actions are reprehensible and very condemnable, try not to get sucked into this IC thing too blindly; do some resarch, all.

People are very delusional nowadays. That’s all I have to say about KONY 2012. Don’t base your decisions to support KONY 2012 on one simple video. If you have no idea what the whole issue is really about then you should probably do a thorough analysis on KONY 2012. DO RESEARCH on your own, please. READ MOAR. Here let me help you start reading about Kony from the perspective of Ugandans:

Before you start making donations to that organization, I hope you really try to consider whether their cause is really for the good.
