Stor 155, plcy 201, phil 155

I was wondering if anyone had taken these classes or tell could me how they are. I’m seriously considering attending UNC summer session during summer 2010 and am actively seeking a job to pay for it. I’ll have 41 credit hours at the end of this coming year, so I’ll have quite a bit of college experience. I’m a rising HS Junior/2nd Semester college Freshman who wants to go to UNC after HS. I do have a few questions though…

My thoughts were to take STOR 155 and PLCY 201 during summer session 1. I’m considering majoring in public policy and philosophy, so I’d like an introduction to Public Policy (STOR 155 is a prerequisite for that major) before I show up to UNC or another college as a Junior.

I’m also considering taking PHIL 155 with UNC online during 1st semester of senior year. I heard the teacher is pretty good and PHIL 155 is an important class for philosophy. (Also If I take another course at my CC, I would exceed the maximum number of transferable hours)

My parents concern (and mine too) is that taking STOR 155 or PLCY 201 in 5 weeks, or PHIL 155 online may be too difficult and if I don’t perform well, I won’t be admitted to UNC.

Advice?

I just reread the undergraduate bulletin and saw that current enrollment or enrollment where community college courses follow UNC courses limits the total UNC+Community college credit to 64 hours. Therefore it’s going to be best if I earn 61 hours at my CC, take PHIL 155 in the fall of senior year, and then if I’m accepted to UNC take STOR 155 and PLCY 201 in the summer session of 2011.

Why are you trying to come into Carolina as a first-year with 64 credit hours? It’s really not so bad here; I promise. haha

My school offers drafting (Which I don’t want to take), Speech and Debate, and required classes. Other than that we are only allowed to pick from college classes and online high school classes. The online high school offers APs (Which I can just take the college classes and automatically get credit), standard electives, 1 Honors Elective. Standard electives are not challenging and probably won’t look good to UNC.

I’m earning my AA Transfer Diploma Core, my AS Transfer Diploma Core (to keep my options open) and transferring 3 college Spanish courses and PE a la carte as it were. Transfer Diploma Cores exempt you from all lower-level general education cores (at UNC this means all non-major courses other than Foreign language, PE, and Distributive/Integrative general education). Assuming I’m accepted and take STOR 155 and PLCY 201 during summer 2011, all I’ll have to take will be 9 hours of general education, 21 hours of philosophy, 24 hours in public policy, and 9 hour in the PPE minor.

My friend took Phil 155 online as a HS senior. He did fine. One of my other friends who is not mathematically inclined at all took it for his QI and said it was “Easier than 2nd grade math.”

Do you want to graduate early? I promise UNC isn’t that bad of a place…

I don’t see any other option. I’m not allowed more than 2 majors and a minor, and it seems that a BA/MA program is unlikely to be approved.
