D was going to arrive this evening (car), but decided to leave earlier than planned to miss the worst. Yay!

Southwest has cancelled all flights for tonight out of Midway in Chicago.

Southwest has cancelled all flights for tonight out of Midway in Chicago.

I’ve always found Southwest to be really good about rebooking you, usually automatically. Our flight last week was going to be significantly delayed, and by the time we got to the airport they had already rebooked us on a different flight arriving only 10 mn after our original arrival. We did end up running from one end of Midway to the other to barely catch our connection. The problem now is there are no empty seats.

For once in my life I’m glad I let my son talk me into flying home one day later than I wanted him to. He’s flying out of Denver through Chicago with a change in Chicago and I wanted him to fly tomorrow. I’m presuming by Saturday when he scheduled to fly anything clogged will be cleared out. We’re getting snow in the northern lower peninsula but it’s raining south still. They are predicting gale force winds on Lake Michigan which is going to impact Chicago tonight at the airports I suspect along with a couple inches of snow. I hope everyone gets home safely.

DD has traveled around the world to get home. The next leg of her trip is tomorrow…Burbank to Las Vegas…that should be OK. Then Vegas to Akron Ohio arriving at 10 tomorrow night we hope. I sent her an email and told her that when she gets to Vegas, she should check for the first flight to Cleveland on Saturday morning. I’d hate to see her sleeping in the airport. Why does it have to be snowing in Akron tomorrow night?

One of D1’s Christmas presents is getting shipped out of Ohio today. What is the chance of us getting it on time?

Fingers crossed that everyone’s sons and daughters get home on time, unscathed.

Ohio is fine today ( has been fine - today is almost over! ). Its tomorrow that might bring delays.

Tomorrow is when my kid is supposed to arrive in Akron…sheesh!

But I think Olforts Christmas present will get there!

I think he’ll be fine. We’re still in the thick of it here but it’s supposed to taper off by the morning (although they closed the schools for a second day as a precaution and because the roads won’t be clear).

We live half an hour drive from Midway and the only weather issue is gusty winds. Snow is very light and isn’t even sticking in our area. It will taper off soon and predictions are for less than half an inch the rest of the night. Clouds will start clearing and winds dying down by midday tomorrow; by Saturday sunny with light winds. So there shouldn’t be any more weather related issues flying to/through Chicago.

Oh yeah - the first thing I thought when I heard “Draco” was Draco Malfoy.

Does anyone know how Detroit is doing? DS flies from Madison to Detroit, and then on to the NYC area tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.

I don’t have any kids coming home, but I also don’t celebrate Christmas. But, my 24 year old daughter is going by bus late tonight with her boyfriend from NYC to Ohio to spend a week at his family’s. I’m a bit worried about that. Forecast in Ohio is not so great.

My package has left Columbus OH

soozievt, I think the storm will be out of Ohio by tonight. The issue might be more Pennsylvania/New York though.

Flying out of DC in about 4 hours into O’Hare…this whole weather thing is not helping my flight anxiety!

I am an hour south of Detroit and we have no snow on the ground. Just windy and wet and some snow showers flying around but no sticking. I would not be surprised if Detroit has SOMETHING though even just that hour north.

And daughter is in Columbus where she said they have a light dusting this morning - lots of morning traffic/accidents on the road, but she said mostly because people just won’t slow down. :(

We are having torrential rain here in CT…and I mean TORRENTIAL.

Does anyone know how Akron OH is and will be? My Weather Channel app says 1-3 inches of snow, then 2-4 overnight…but the hourly forecast says NOT that!

VeryHappy: Last night, my mom said that their Detroit suburb (5 miles north of the city line) had only had rain and the predictions were for a dusting-to-an-inch of snow. North in the snow-belt would get most of the snow. DTW can handle quite a bit of snow before they have a problem – at least in my experience of over 30 years of traveling through there at Christmas.

Poof. Nothing happened in Chicago. Streets and sidewalks completely clear. A dusting on my 21st-floor corner terrace, which traps the wind. I hear they got 19 inches in Madison – very strange for us to have wildly different weather.

thumper, I honestly don’t think Akron should be that bad. They are used to dealing with snow because they often get it off the lake. The issue may be visibility though, as it will be windy. If your kiddo is getting there in the afternoon, it should be OK. They will certainly have plowed and salted the roads by then.
